This branch moves the platform onto the Protocol's next chunk, software-delivery-protocol#33, and retires the home-grown tooling that chunk now replaces. The Protocol was asked, on 2026-10-13, to unlock as much of this design work as it could. Where the platform needed something the Protocol lacked, the Protocol built it in its own pull request, and this branch adopts it instead of working around it. No platform Spec changes rung, and no decision of the doc changes.

What changes

The pin. package.json pins github:libar-dev/software-delivery-protocol#abf532d9a2a5da536d9235215f108d6aaa723ca2, the head of #33. The package builds itself during npm ci through its prepare script, so a re-pin is one edit. allowScripts in package.json and allow-git=root in .npmrc approve that build by its git source, as the Protocol's README teaches. npx sdp --version names the pinned commit. The vendored tarball under vendor/ is gone, with the two config lines that named its folder.

Recipe bodies run as shipped. design/tools/decisions.py, scripts/pinned.mjs and scripts/pack-page.mjs run the shipped files under node_modules/@libar-dev/software-delivery-protocol/dist/recipes/ with --params. Nothing cuts a body out of the catalog by regular expression any more. The agent pointers in AGENTS.md, design/README.md, design/PLAN.md and two advisor files say the same.

The graph-side checks run inside sdp validate. The checks check.py made by reading carriers now run as one corpus rules file, design/rules/policy.js, plus the Protocol's architecture walk (its recipe 42) for isolation:

  • readiness policy: blocking means scoped, and no stated ready;
  • mentions, with the allowances in design/tools/prose-mentions.json;
  • entry addresses found in the sources, and the open question each register row names;
  • dependency cycles and the citation edges a Law citation needs;
  • the platform context's isolation, through recipe 42.

check.py stays the one gate command. It scans the addresses (design/tools/scan_addresses.py, which reads the Protocol's exported section list), runs sdp validate . --rules design/rules/policy.js … --rules …/42-the-architecture-walk.js --params '{"isolated":["platform"]}', and fails on its findings. The checks that read files and records stay in Python: source scans, the README's expected lines, the extension register, links, the ledger and register patches, and the Pack page. Every planted mistake the tests carried still fails the gate, now through a named rule.

The Studio beside the Pack page. npm run studio publishes the Spec Studio's static pages under generated/spec-studio/ (251 pages; open index.html). The gate publishes them and checks that a second build gives the same bytes. The pages stay generated and ignored. The committed Pack page, design/pages/history-view.md, stays as decision 58 has it, because replacing it is the owner's call (below).

Two associations the reader tasks need.

  • OD-157 now closes the citation list of spec:application.history-rebuild#question.verifyPassUnderPause, so search and entry search find the question by its register id.
  • tests/types/pinned.test-d.ts carries the test anchor test:history-view.pinned-declarations, binding the type-comparison suite to the eleven Specs whose pinned declarations it compares. spec:application.history-projection now carries has-verifier.

What it shows

An Astra job given only the Studio's pages from this branch, with no repository and no CLI, worked the five reader tasks of the first feedback file:

Task From the pages
Find the history contract Yes: the Pack page, then history-projection's Contract and Design sections
Locate OD-157 Yes: search, then history-rebuild#question.verifyPassUnderPause
Explain the aggregate dependency Yes: "Rested on by" on the Pack page, then aggregate-projection's relations and its blocking question
Find one declaration's type comparison In part: the page names the suite and its file and line, but shows no assertion for one declaration
Native-backend evidence for a paused-rebuild example Yes, there is none recorded: the example names the tier, and its bindings show no verifier and no run result

Screenshots of these pages are in the Protocol's pull request.

Measured at b038bd4, re-run rather than inherited: 243 Specs, 6 Packs, 181 anchors, 430 nodes and 1,510 edges; validate 0 errors and 12 warnings, as before; corpus rules: 0 errors · 0 warnings · 0 of 2 files failed. The context bundle (recipe 36) on pack:history-view with {"declarations":"addresses"} fits in 93,806 of 100,000 units; before this chunk no platform Pack fit. The key-family register (recipe 41) lists 109 limit, 27 error, 21 table and 59 index entries, each with its line.

Proof

CI passes on this branch, the checks and native jobs both, and so do the checks commands locally: check.py prints OK, the 54 Python tests pass, and typecheck, lint, format:check and npm test pass (75 files, 1,153 tests, 10 skipped type comparisons). No native backend ran. Each tooling change has a test that failed first. An Opus 5.5 review of each half was checked and fixed on this branch.

On the pull request, CodeRabbit found that the address scan crashed with an IndexError when node failed with empty stderr; it now names the reason from stderr, stdout or the exit code (1742771). The native job then timed out two page-building tests under its load: each page build spawns sdp q twice, so they carry an explicit 30-second timeout (e692cef).

For the owner

  1. Decision 58. Should the Studio become the page a pass reads first, replacing the committed Pack page? The recommendation: yes, once a reviewer holding only a link can reach the Studio's pages.
  2. A link to the Studio. The pages are generated and ignored. Options: a CI artifact per run, a preview URL per pull request, or the committed page meanwhile. The recommendation: a preview per pull request, built after the last shared build, and the committed page until it exists.

What the Protocol still owes

  • A rules file cannot call the Protocol's address resolution or its cycle search, so policy.js keeps a copy of both, with its section list read from the package. #33 proposes the fix as the first lane of its next pull request.
  • No Studio page shows the assertion that checks one declaration. #33 lists it as a next lane.

📝 Walkthrough

The Protocol dependency is pinned to a GitHub revision, and query tools use shipped recipe files with JSON parameters. Corpus checks now run through Protocol policy rules, with address scanning and Studio checks in the gate. The history page records pinned-declaration verification.

Changes: Protocol corpus validation

Layer / File(s) Summary
Pin Protocol and use shipped recipes
.npmrc, package.json, design/tools/decisions.py, scripts/*, AGENTS.md, design/PLAN.md, design/README.md, design/advisors/*, .prettierignore, tsconfig.json
The Protocol dependency is pinned to a GitHub revision. Query tools and instructions use shipped recipe files and JSON parameters. The TypeScript and Prettier configurations no longer exclude vendor/.
Scan addresses and validate corpus rules
design/tools/scan_addresses.py, design/rules/policy.js, design/advisors/register.md, design/tools/test_decisions.py
Address scanning and Protocol policy rules cover corpus addresses, readiness, mentions, dependencies, questions, citations, and register sources. Tests exercise these rules.
Run validation and Studio checks
design/tools/check.py, package.json, design/README.md, design/tools/test_decisions.py
check.py runs Protocol validation, then renders and checks Studio. Gate tests cover validation failures and Studio checks.
Record pinned declaration verification
tests/types/pinned.test-d.ts, design/pages/history-view.md, design/specs/application/history-rebuild.sdp.md, design/README.md, design/tools/test_decisions.py
The pinned-declarations test is linked to covered Specs in the generated history page. The history-rebuild question adds OD-157 as a source, and the documented corpus totals are updated.

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 14ebd

If the address-section lookup fails without stderr, the check command prints a traceback instead of a useful failure message. This is a bounded diagnostic issue and does not otherwise block merging.

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 14ebd

The visible changes affect repository validation and generated design views. The exact dependency revision limits drift, and failures still fail the gate. However, installation now permits dependency build scripts whose behavior could not be verified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The directly evidenced scope is repository validation and generated design output. Approved dependency scripts and Node CLI processes operate with the invoking account's authority; exposure to credentials or other environments depends on the installation environment, which was not supplied.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The intended executable inputs are package-shipped recipe bodies and the repository-owned policy file. Address subjects are passed as data, not incorporated into rewritten JavaScript. The exact commit and lockfile constrain dependency selection, but do not establish safe install scripts or sandboxed rule execution.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • inferred — Per-run parameter files prevent temporary-input collisions, but do not isolate the shared Studio output. The caller detects command failures without demonstrating cleanup, locking, or interruption recovery. No supplied evidence establishes that these generated pages enforce a security decision.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Review the pinned package's lifecycle scripts and run dependency preparation with only the filesystem access and credentials required for the build. This would bound the newly approved install-time execution authority; it is not a finding that excessive privileges are currently present.
