The server already lets you set genres, moods, content warnings, description, series and release year by hand, but the app had no way to do it. This adds one Edit details form to the book menu with all of them, plus title, author and print pages. Save only sends what changed.

The book menu gets shorter: Edit details, Change cover, Reading dates, Merge a duplicate, Remove from library.

image

Two sheet fixes came out of testing on iOS:

  • The page behind a sheet no longer scrolls when the sheet opens or a field gets focus.
  • While typing, the page no longer shows through around the keyboard's floating bar.

Tested on an iPhone 17 Pro, iOS 27.0.1 against a local test server and with a real book against the live API.
Tested on Desktop (Chrome on Mac) for appearance.

This PR closes #32

The book menu's Edit details opens one form for title, author, genres,
moods, content warnings, description, series, release year and print
pages. Only changed fields are sent. Sheets now pin the page behind them
and hide it while typing, so nothing scrolls or shows through around the
iOS keyboard bar.

The book menu now opens one form for editing book details, including catalog lists, description, series, release year, and page count. Sheets pin page scroll while open and adjust their sizing and visibility when the keyboard appears.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

Issue #32 requires a book metadata editor with editable genres and moods, an entry point on the book page, and updated statistics data. app/src/Book.jsx adds the Edit details form and sends changed metadata through api.setInfo, including add/remove behavior for genres and moods. The form calls the refresh callback after saving. app/src/Stats.jsx derives mood and genre distributions from the current book data. app/src/Book.test.jsx verifies changed-field payloads, mood deduplication, genre removal, and refresh behavior. src/app.ts serves this same app as the browser web UI at /app/.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The reviewed changes remain connected to Issue #32. The menu consolidation places the metadata editor on the book page. The title, author, series, year, and page fields extend the same book-details editing flow. The sheet scroll and keyboard changes support reliable use of the form on iOS. The tests cover the new save behavior. No demonstrated change has an unrelated product objective.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The PR description states that the change adds an Edit details form to the book menu for genres, moods, content warnings, description, series, release year, title, author, and print pages, that saving sends only changed fields, and that two iOS sheet fixes were made. The changeset (Book.jsx, Book.test.jsx, ui.jsx, index.css) matches these claims. The description is specific and directly related to the changes, so it is not off-topic or vague. The description's closing reference to issue #32 is not part of the changeset assessment; the check only asks whether the description relates to the changes.

Check page counts against the server's 100000 limit and cap the series
name at 200 characters. Send title and author separately, so a book
without a stored title can get just an author. Keep toasts visible while
a sheet hides the page for typing.

Do not submit an outdated page count after a refresh.

When the editor remains open, pages keeps the value from its initial render. A same-document refresh updates book.page_count without remounting BookMenu. Saving another field then makes the comparison treat the old pages value as a change and sends it to api.setInfo.

Capture the opening page count as the comparison baseline, or reconcile this field when book changes without overwriting user edits.

Suggested fix
 function EditDetailsSheet({ session, book, onDone, onClose }) {
+  const [initialPageCount] = useState(book.page_count ?? null)
   const [about] = useLoad(() => api.about(session, book.document), [book.document], `about ${book.document}`)
...
-    if (p !== (book.page_count ?? null)) patch.page_count = p
+    if (p !== initialPageCount) patch.page_count = p

Review comment at @app/src/Book.jsx at line 925:
Update EditDetailsSheet so page-count change detection uses the count captured
when the editor opens as its comparison baseline, rather than the refreshed
book.page_count prop. This prevents saving another field from submitting a stale
pages value while preserving intentional page-count edits.

@coderabbitai Fixed in cc252ef. The form now keeps the book as it was when it opened and compares every field against that, so a refresh while it is open can't turn any old value into an edit, not only the page count.

@eszter007 Thanks for the fix in cc252ef. Comparing every field against the snapshot captured when the form opens addresses the refresh concern across the form, not just the page count.
