GitHub Actions Explorer

A Chrome Manifest V3 extension that upgrades the GitHub Actions workflow sidebar with fuzzy search, prefix grouping, and repository-specific history.

This is an unofficial project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by GitHub.

Preview

GitHub Actions Explorer organizing workflows into nested Deploy, API, and Web groups GitHub Actions Explorer finding Deploy workflows from the misspelled query dploy

Features

  • Fuzzy workflow search powered by Fuse.js
  • Character-level highlighting of fuzzy search matches
  • Recursive hierarchy grouping with -, _, and / as equivalent separators
  • Groups-first alphabetical sorting and compact intermediate hierarchy paths
  • Prefix-trimmed workflow labels in groups while YAML file names stay unchanged
  • Up to 10 recent searches and 10 recently opened workflows per repository
  • Per-item history removal in addition to clearing all history
  • One-click switching between Explorer and GitHub's original workflow list
  • Five-minute workflow cache with a clearly labeled seven-day stale fallback
  • Runtime validation of all persisted data with Valibot
  • Shadow DOM styles and GitHub SPA navigation support through WXT
  • Safe fallback to GitHub's original workflow list when fetching or parsing fails

History and cache data are stored locally with WXT Storage's local: area (chrome.storage.local). They are not synced between browsers or sent anywhere. The Clear history button removes search and viewing history for the current repository while preserving collapsed groups.

Releases

Releases are prepared from Conventional Commit titles. Release Please keeps a release pull request up to date and chooses the next version from merged changes:

  • fix creates a patch release
  • feat creates a minor release
  • ! or BREAKING CHANGE creates a major release

Merging the release pull request runs all quality checks, packages the extension, generates signed build provenance, and publishes the ZIP and its SHA-256 checksum in an immutable GitHub Release. The first v0.1.0 release is started manually from the Release workflow; subsequent releases start automatically when a Release Please pull request is merged.

Immutable Releases must remain enabled in the repository settings. Every published release and its ZIP asset are verified by the workflow after publication.

Download and verify a release with GitHub CLI:

gh release download v0.1.0
gh release verify v0.1.0
gh attestation verify github-actions-explorer-0.1.0-chrome.zip \
  --repo tomatoaiu/github-actions-explorer

To install a release without the Chrome Web Store, extract the downloaded ZIP and select the extracted directory with Load unpacked at chrome://extensions.

The workflow list comes from GitHub's unofficial same-origin actions/workflows_partial endpoint. Its parser is isolated and covered by HTML fixtures so a markup change cannot silently turn a parse failure into an empty workflow list.
