ci: deploy releases/r10.0 to production (deployment changes only, no develop code) - #376
Conversation
Brings the deployment side of develop's pipeline to r10.0, and none of its application code, so production can run r10.0 until develop is released: - The workflow is develop's: the develop job runs only on develop, and the release job deploys to bitween on the production cluster (app.bitween.io on s9-prod-edge's https-wildcard-bitween-io listener) while BITWEEN_PROD_DEPLOY is true. It also publishes the chart to GHCR, which the deploy pulls from. Left out until the release: the CLI and SDK jobs and the SW.Bitween.Adapters package, whose code is only on develop. The old staging job's deploy to playground is gone with it. - The chart passes any other environmentVariables to the container, using develop's own lines. That's how production's AWS_*_CHECKSUM_* settings reach the pod. With default values the container gets the same 21 variables as before.
📝 Summary
Merge Risk: 🟠 High · up to Merging this change starts a public production deployment of r10.0. By the author's own account, that release creates an admin account and a SYSTEM API key whose credentials are published in the repository. Until someone rotates them by hand, anyone who knows those values could sign in to production. Supply unique credentials before the first deploy, or keep the route closed until rotation. The deployment documentation also wrongly lists the Adapters package as published. Pre-merge checks |

Do not expose production with published seed credentials.
When BITWEEN_PROD_DEPLOY is true, this job deploys the application at app.bitween.io. The PR states that the first deployment seeds an admin password and a SYSTEM partner API key already published in the repository. Rotating them after deployment leaves a window for anyone with those credentials to authenticate. Provision unique credentials before enabling the public route, or keep the route inaccessible until both credentials are changed. As per path instructions, “Treat GitHub Actions changes as supply-chain sensitive.”

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Remove the Adapters package from the production pipeline row.
The workflow sets nuget-projects to SW.Bitween.Sdk/SW.Bitween.Sdk.csproj only. This row incorrectly tells clients that the pipeline also publishes SimplyWorks.Bitween.Adapters. Remove that claim until the package is included in the release.

Lets production run r10.0's current code now, and leaves the full develop → r10.0 release for later. This carries only the deployment side of develop's pipeline, with no application code.
Changes
.github/workflows/bitween-api-cicd-gateway.yml: develop's version, with three parts left out until the develop release brings their code: thecli-develop,cli-releaseandsdk-releasejobs (their workflows and the CLI and SDK code exist only on develop), and theSW.Bitween.AdaptersNuGet package. r10.0's release job now:bitweenchart to ChartMuseum and GHCR, since the deploy pulls it from GHCR;bitweenon the production cluster (S9PROD_KUBECONFIG_V2):app.bitween.ioons9-prod-edge'shttps-wildcard-bitween-iolistener, with thePROD_*secrets and the S3 checksum setting;BITWEEN_PROD_DEPLOYistrue, which it is now, so merging this deploys production. The old staging job that deployed r10.0 to
playgroundis gone. Run by hand, it would have re-added anapp-dev.bitween.iolistener, and app-dev would answer 404.charts/default/templates/deployment.yaml: develop's own lines that pass any otherenvironmentVariablesto the container. That's howAWS_*_CHECKSUM_*reaches the pods: r10.0 uses the same SimplyWorks.CloudFiles.S3 10.0.1 as develop, so it has the same upload problem. With default values the container gets exactly the same 21 variables as before, so existing client installs are unchanged.docs/deployment.md: the CI rows, as on develop. Not carried, because it's tied to develop's app: develop's chart turns probes on against
/health/liveand/health/ready(r10.0 serves only/health), requires a non-root container, and changes the container port. r10.0's probes stay off.Verified
actionlintis clean, andhelm lintpasses on r10.0's chart.public-gateway/s9-prod-edge/https-wildcard-bitween-io, there are 2 replicas, and the AWS_* andBitween__BusProvidersEnabledvariables each appear once.Right after the first deploy (operations, no code)
r10.0 seeds two credentials that are published in this repository; develop already fixes both:
admin@Bitween.systems's default password: whoever signs in first chooses the new one; Both get changed immediately after the first deploy. The develop release later finds them already changed, so it needs no
InitialAdminPassword.
