feat(desktop): draw context menus in the app on Windows and Linux - #28472
On Windows and Linux, every right-click menu in the desktop app is a native OS menu. Native menus ignore the app theme, so they stay grey with no icons and no red Delete, while the thread details card and the web app already draw their own menu. A plain right-click on text or empty space also gets the native Cut/Copy/Paste menu.
This draws both kinds in the app on Windows and Linux. macOS keeps native menus, as Julius asked in #10997.
contextMenu.show in localApi.ts now uses the existing in-app menu (contextMenuFallback.ts) on desktop unless the platform is macOS.
The window's own menu (spelling fixes, Copy Link, Copy Image, Cut/Copy/Paste/Select all) still comes from Electron's context-menu event, so Electron still decides what applies. On Windows and Linux the main process sends the items to the page, the page draws them, and the main process runs the one you pick. A new menu replaces the previous one, so a late answer for an old menu does nothing. The item list moved to WindowContextMenu.ts, and the native and in-app menus are both built from it.
In-app menus show shortcut hints (Ctrl+X and so on), as the native menu did.
A menu that would run off the window now opens on the other side of the pointer, like a native menu, instead of sliding over what you clicked. This changes web too.
The chat header no longer waits 500 ms before opening the title menu on Windows and Linux. The delay was there because native menus swallow the second click of a double-click.
Webviews in the preview browser and popups they open keep native menus, since there is no app page to draw in.
A right-click on an open in-app menu now does nothing, as on a native menu, instead of opening a second menu over it.
A submenu that would run off the right edge stays on the left of its parent menu. Before, a clamp one frame later slid it back over the parent (CodeRabbit flagged it here). #23666 fixes the same bug in a different way, so whichever lands second needs a small rebase.
#18103 adds an opt-in setting that switches feature menus to the in-app style. This PR changes the default on Windows and Linux instead, and also covers the window's own Cut/Copy/Paste menu. If you would rather have it behind that setting, I can move it there.

Testing
vp run check:changed: format, lint, knip, typecheck, tests and the React compiler check pass.
New tests: WindowContextMenu.test.ts (menu sections, stale and disabled answers), a table in localApi.test.ts (macOS native, Windows and Linux in-app) and a placement case in contextMenuFallback.test.ts. The localApi and placement cases fail on main.
Ran the desktop dev build on Windows 11 and went through: the sidebar thread menu with its submenus, Discard draft, Delete with its confirm dialog, the chat header right-click and title click, double-click on the title to rename, selected chat text (Copy put it on the clipboard), Cut then Paste in the composer, picking a spelling suggestion, Shift+F10 in the composer (focus moves into the menu, arrow keys skip disabled items, Escape returns focus to the composer).
Not checked: Linux and macOS builds, menu placement with the app zoomed in, and right-click in a popup opened from the preview browser. Copy Link and Copy Image in the window menu are covered by the unit test only.

Native menus ignore the app theme. On Windows and Linux, feature menus now
use the in-app menu the web client already draws, and the window's own
spelling and Cut/Copy/Paste menu is drawn by the page while the main process
still decides its items and runs the one picked. macOS keeps native menus.
In-app menus show shortcut hints and open on the other side of the pointer
when they would run off the window.
Macroscope's review found this PR requires human approval — Windows and Linux switch from native to in-app context menus by default; a human must confirm that product choice rather than an opt-in rollout. The unresolved Medium finding also reports unavailable context menus in popup windows.

Walkthrough
The desktop app routes non-macOS main-window context-menu requests to the web app for in-page display. The web app returns the selected item over IPC. Native menus remain in use on macOS and for guest and popup contents.
The shared contract and preload bridge add window context-menu request notifications and selection responses. Context-menu items can include shortcut hints.

Electron builds menu entries and routes non-macOS main-window requests through the renderer. It resolves valid selections and retains native menus for other contents. Tests cover menu entries and request resolution.

The web app installs the IPC listener and uses native context menus only on macOS. The page fallback displays shortcut hints, adjusts menu placement, and prevents an inside right-click from opening the browser context menu. Tests cover platform selection and fallback behavior.

Explanation
The title "feat(desktop): draw context menus in the app on Windows and Linux" matches the main change: on Windows and Linux, desktop context menus are now drawn by the in-app fallback menu instead of native OS menus. The raw summary confirms this through the localApi platform check, the preload and IPC additions, WindowContextMenu.ts, and the contextMenuFallback changes. The title is concise, uses a conventional commit prefix, and does not list files. It omits secondary items such as shortcut hints and the chat header delay change, which the title does not need to cover.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description follows the repository template in most places. It has a clear explanation of the problem (native menus ignore the app theme and lack icons, and a plain right-click gets native Cut/Copy/Paste), a detailed Change section with the main-process and page split, and a Verification section that lists the commands run, the new tests, and the manual Windows 11 checks. It also states what was not checked. Gaps: the template's "Problem" section is framed as a bug and the author's reference is an issue (#10997), but the "Scope and approval" section is not filled in as the template asks. The description cites Julius's request in #10997 for macOS, but does not link the triaged issue or include the approval comment. It also says the PR changes the default behavior on Windows and Linux, and that choice needs maintainer approval under the template's rules. The verification section is thorough, and before/after screenshots are included. The template's explicit request for the model and harness is covered by the line 'Created with Claude Opus 5.5 in Claude Code, running in T3 Code.'

Preserve the submenu position before the deferred clamp.
When a submenu opens near the right edge, openSubmenu moves it left of its parent. The queued callback then clamps from the original preferredLeft, which can move the submenu back over the parent. Use the submenu’s current position in the deferred clamp.

@coderabbitai The submenu clamp you flagged at contextMenuFallback.ts:609-615 predated this PR, but it sits next to code this PR changes, so it is fixed here in e579a31: the deferred clamp now keeps a submenu on the side openSubmenu chose. A new test fails without the fix. #23666 fixes the same bug another way.
@BENZda You’re right. I confirmed that main has the same deferred submenu clamp in apps/web/src/contextMenuFallback.ts. This PR changes placement only for top-level menus, so it does not introduce the submenu issue.
The diff in #23666 handles submenu flipping inside the deferred callback. I withdraw this finding; no change is needed here.

@BENZda You’re right. My earlier reply missed that you fixed the pre-existing bug in this PR.
I inspected e579a31e99. The deferred clamp now uses the submenu’s current position, which preserves the side chosen by openSubmenu. The new regression test checks that the submenu stays left of its parent after the deferred frame.
I did not run the test. Thank you for the fix and the clarification.

@BENZda Thanks for the clarification and fix. I inspected e579a31e99. The deferred clamp now uses the submenu’s current position, preserving the side chosen by openSubmenu.
The regression test checks that the submenu stays left of its parent after the deferred frame. I did not run the test.
My original finding incorrectly treated a pre-existing bug as introduced by this PR. I withdraw that finding.

Closing because there is no prior maintainer approval for replacing Windows and Linux native context menus with HTML menus. Obtain agreement on that scope in Ideas before requesting reconsideration under the contribution policy. #10997
