Problem

The Claude provider guide has a "Compact long conversations" section, but the OpenCode guide never says where compaction is configured. T3 Code has no OpenCode compaction setting, so a user whose OpenCode thread compacts too early or loses detail has nothing in the docs to point them at OpenCode's own config.

Change

Adds a short "Compaction" section to docs/user/providers-opencode.md: compaction is OpenCode's own, the settings live under compaction in opencode.json (auto, buffer, keep.tokens), and /compact compacts a thread by hand. The settings are marked OpenCode 2 only.

Scope and approval

Docs only, one file, no behavior change. This is the discoverability case from CONTRIBUTING.md: an existing workflow (OpenCode's config) already covers the need, and the docs don't say so.

Verification

  • Checked the three setting names, their meanings, and the V2-only scope against OpenCode's v2.2.0 compaction page, which states that its settings apply to V2 and that V1 used different pruning behavior.
  • Checked that /compact is a built-in slash command for OpenCode in packages/provider-opencode/src/server/status.ts.
  • I did not run the app or compact a real thread. I did not check OpenCode 1.x's settings, so the page only says they differ.

Walkthrough

The OpenCode provider guide now describes automatic compaction, version-specific configuration, and the /compact command for manual compaction.

Explanation

The title "docs(opencode): say where compaction is configured" matches the change. The PR adds a Compaction section to the OpenCode provider guide that names OpenCode's own config file as the place for compaction settings. The title is specific, follows conventional commit form, and is 50 characters long.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description covers the problem, the change, scope and approval, and verification. The problem and change sections explain why the docs need the Compaction section and what it states. The scope section cites the docs-only, discoverability case from CONTRIBUTING.md. The verification section lists the checks run against OpenCode's v2.2.0 docs and the /compact command, and it states what was not checked: the app was not run, a real thread was not compacted, and OpenCode 1.x settings were not verified. The description follows the template's sections and its requirement to state untested items. Its verification relies on documentation and code references, which fits a docs-only change.

Verified in a real dev environment

verified unchanged head 5d726d9b253808916e830d49d9ebee6a7c203a30 on linux with the real dev server, repo playwright, and google chrome. this is a documentation change, so the baseline is missing guidance rather than a runtime regression: github/main at ce48e45900 has no compaction section. i ran main in a separate worktree and stopped its captured background process before starting the pr with the same isolated task state.

  • created a real repository project and threads through the app. real codex gpt-6.1-sol turns passed on main and the pr.
  • configured opencode 2.2.5 and selected localproxy/gpt-6.1-sol in the client. native /api/config returned the documented auto, buffer, and keep.tokens values.
  • with auto: false, sent /compact from the composer. the client showed compaction, and native session history recorded status: completed, reason: manual, and a generated summary. the next turn recalled cobalt lantern 27614; the result persisted after reload.
  • with auto: true, buffer: "99%", and keep.tokens: 1000, an existing session compacted automatically and recalled the phrase. native history recorded one completed compaction with reason: auto. changing only auto to false allowed another normal turn without increasing that count.
  • switching to codex through the same client completed its context handoff and returned codex-neighbor-27614.

opencode compaction followed by successful recall

recording of native compaction and follow-up recall

Not verified

native desktop/mobile clients, remote relay/tunnel connections, an external opencode server, opencode 1.x behavior, and exact retention quality in large conversations were not exercised. the deliberately aggressive automatic buffer hit opencode's Nothing to compact yet guard on a new session; the existing-session automatic check above passed. the first proxy attempt also failed with an incorrect local credential, which was corrected before verification.

all executed github ci checks passed; documentation-scoped build/web jobs were skipped. no source changes were needed, and no local test suite was run.

* fix(web): play completion sounds without delay (pingdotgg#29146)

Completion alerts waited two seconds after the client received a completed thread state. Audio was also fetched and decoded only when an alert needed to play, adding a first-play delay.

Notify immediately when the thread shell reports completion, and preload both sounds when a user gesture unlocks audio. Keep completion deduplication and suppression for existing, archived, and stopped runs.

This intentionally removes the continuation grace for completion alerts. A completed run can now notify before an automatic continuation starts. The sidebar's two-second placement grace and server settlement behavior remain in place.

Validation: `vp run check:changed` passes after merging current main, including 40 affected tests, formatting, lint, unused-code checks, affected typechecks, and React compiler checks. Tests cover immediate completion, duplicate suppression across reconnects, preloaded audio reuse, and retrying failed loads on alerts without retrying on every gesture. Audible timing has not been verified in a live client.

Model: GPT 6.1 Sol. Harness: Codex through T3 Code.
