feat: optionally clone repos into ghq-style <host>/<owner>/<repo> folders - #24904
Unproven: the web and desktop clone flows weren't run live, and nothing was run on Windows.
Before this PR, cloning suggested <Add project starts in>/<repo>. To keep clones in a ghq tree (~/ghq/github.com/owner/repo) you had to type the whole path by hand on every clone, which is slow on a phone.
Now Settings has "Clone into host folders", off by default. When it's on, clones suggest <Add project starts in>/<host>/<owner>/<repo>, including nested GitLab groups, so ghq users set that folder to ~/ghq. The client builds the path from the clone URL in the command palette, copy to machine, prompt links and mobile. On mobile, the missing host and owner folders show a grey "Cloning creates it" note instead of a red error. A path you type or pick still wins, and URLs with unsafe folder names fall back to the flat path.

Android 13 on a POCO M3 Pro (corex), T3 Code Dev client built for this native fingerprint, JS from each checkout's Metro. Main at f0dd86f164, this PR at 3bc4056b5e, each against its own isolated server and a local fixture repo mapped to https://example.test/acme/sample.git. Both clones checked out the fixture commit 3072f7b.
vp run check:changed at 3bc4056b5e passed: format, lint, knip, 30 typechecks, 131 tests in 12 files.
Implemented by Opus 5.5 in Claude Code, tested and reviewed by GPT-6.1-Sol in Codex. Trimmed and re-verified by Opus 5.5 in Claude Code.
Merged current main without rebasing and kept its mobile settings page structure. Corrected the clone setting's web search target and documentation to Threads, and added mobile search terms. The feature diff remains 255 additions and 33 deletions across 20 files.
Blacksmith vp run check:changed passed: format, lint, both knip passes, GraphQL generation, 31 package typechecks, and 147 tests in 13 files. Two independent read-only reviews approved this head. System Chrome verified searching ghq opens Threads and highlights the clone setting; toggling persisted through reload and was restored afterward.
Before: the previous search destination, General, has no clone setting.
After: search opens Threads and highlights the setting.
Unverified this pass: native mobile, Windows, Electron shell, relay/tunnel, and clone/copy runtime. Earlier evidence remains above. Model: gpt-6.1-sol. Harness: Codex.
Macroscope's review found this PR requires human approval — This PR adds a new settings-driven clone layout capability spanning web, mobile, shared URL parsing, and server filesystem error handling. Existing behavior remains the default, but the cross-cutting production impact and new product setting warrant human review.

Walkthrough
The pull request adds an optional host-folder clone layout based on repository remote URLs. Web and mobile clone flows use the setting when suggesting destinations. Mobile browse errors also distinguish missing clone-parent paths from other failures.
Server settings add ghqCloneLayout, defaulting to false. Web and mobile settings expose the option, include it in reset and search behavior, and document the host-folder layout.
cloneUrlRepositoryPath parses safe host and repository path segments. getCloneDirectoryPath uses the parsed path when the setting is enabled and falls back to the existing directory name. Tests cover default, host-folder, and fallback paths.
Web and mobile clone entry points use remote URLs and the environment setting to derive suggested clone directories. The mobile path input uses the computed default and resets it when the environment changes.
Browse errors add optional pathMissing information, which the server forwards to mobile. For cloning, mobile shows a notice when the browse failure indicates a missing parent; other browse failures retain an error banner.

Allow a user-selected destination to bypass the pending suggestion.
If the user types or picks a destination while suggestedDestination is pending, pathOwner already prevents the late suggestion from replacing that path. This check still blocks keyboard submission, and the matching button check on Line 1421 blocks the Clone project action. On a slow suggestion request, the user must wait to clone to the path they selected. Gate submission on the query only while the destination remains automatic.

Addressed the outside-diff pending-suggestion finding in review 5644054812 with d10dd51. Both the Clone button and keyboard submit now wait only while the destination is automatic. Path and ownership update together; a folder preload still blocks submission, and an environment switch restores automatic ownership.
The new regression failed before the fix and passes now. All 11 focused tests, mobile typecheck, Boat changed checks, and a fresh independent review passed. On Android 13, both button and keyboard cloning completed while a test proxy held the suggestion request. Folder selection and organized cloning also passed. Current-commit screenshots and recordings are in the PR body. Windows runtime and the other listed limits remain unverified.
If this screen receives a remote URL without the optional repositoryName, pinnedDirectoryName is empty. A suggested destination with a missing parent then shows an error banner instead of “This folder does not exist yet. Cloning creates it.” Pass clone mode to FolderBrowser explicitly, rather than deriving it from the directory name.

Addressed the outside-diff clone-mode finding in review 5644159404 with 6f6bf47. The destination screen now passes clone mode from the remote URL, independently of the optional repository name.
On Android 13, the route without a repository name showed the error before the fix and the expected missing-parent note after it. A file blocking the parent path and a missing folder in the local-folder flow still show errors. Before/after screenshots are in the PR body. Boat job j_r3bygoihesi47rcim3z6 passed changed checks, including 11 tests, both affected-package typechecks, format, lint and both knip passes. Windows runtime and the other limits listed in the PR remain unverified.

@shivamhwp thanks for the opt-in layout and for covering the palette, copy-to-machine, prompt links and mobile. i kept your commits and implementation, merged current main, and pushed f002958 on top.
i restored portable folder validation that the latest simplification had dropped: windows device names, trailing dots/spaces, and windows drive paths fall back to the flat destination. a regression in the existing parser test failed first, then passed. prompt-link clones now honor "add project starts in" when host folders are enabled; the setting-off behavior stays unchanged. no new dependencies or test files.
verification passed:
blacksmith vp run check:changed: format, lint, both knip passes, graphql generation check, 30 affected-package typechecks, and 132 tests in 12 files.
system chrome against an isolated dev server: setting persistence, flat default when off, host-folder proposal when on, manual override, and real github clone. octocat/Hello-World checked out 7fd1a60b01f91b314f59955a4e4d4e80d8edf11d at ~/github.com/octocat/Hello-World.
prompt-link destination reproduced before the fix, then corrected through the real websocket/client path; octocat/git-consortium cloned at the corrected destination.
active clone cancellation reached server phase: cancelled, showed the cancelled state in the client, and removed the partial checkout.
two independent read-only reviews approved f002958 with no remaining findings.
unverified: native windows execution, native ios/android, the separate electron shell, multi-environment switching, relay/tunnel connections, and copy-to-machine runtime. portable-path tests and shared web code do not replace those checks. feature approval remains maria's decision.

no conflicts or new actionable review findings. the original ci wave passed; an evidence-body edit triggered another native fingerprint check, still running at this snapshot. macroscope's feature approval remains maria's decision. native mobile/windows/electron, relay/tunnel and clone/copy runtime were not repeated this pass. task dev server and blacksmith worker are stopped.
