Summary

  • Adds .coderabbit.yaml, modelled on the one in openbrf/openbrf, so this repository's pull requests are reviewed against its own rules instead of CodeRabbit's defaults.
  • The path instructions hold the reference theme to the token contract and to what an author copying it would take with them: theme.json stays pure data with bundled, licensed fonts and AA contrast, package.json carries no runtime dependency, pack.mjs stays deterministic, and release.yml keeps making the attestation the catalog accepts.

Implementation notes

  • The title check is a warning, not an error as in the core, because no commitlint runs here.
  • Documentation-only pull requests (docs:, docs(...)) are skipped, as in the core, because reviews share an hourly allowance with the pull requests that carry code.
  • openbrf/openbrf and openbrf/catalog are linked repositories, for the token contract and the listing rules.
  • The lockfile, dist/ and the bundled .woff2 files are filtered out of review.
  • oxlint is on, for the two scripts. eslint, biome, markdownlint, the prose linters and the OSV scanner are off, each with its reason in the file.

Verification

  • Validated against CodeRabbit's published schema (schema.v2.json) with ajv (draft 2020-12). The schema does not reject unknown keys, so every key path was also checked against the properties the schema declares; none is unknown. The core's own .coderabbit.yaml passes the same two checks.
  • prettier --check passes.

Risk and rollback

Configuration only; nothing runs differently in CI. Until it merges CodeRabbit reviews with its defaults. Reverting the commit restores them.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Chores
    • Added automated code review configuration for the project.
    • Reviews now provide summaries, related issue and pull request context, effort estimates, and incremental feedback.
    • Enabled security and correctness checks for secrets, workflows, YAML, shell scripts, and JavaScript.
    • Added tailored review guidance for project files and documentation, with exclusions for generated, vendor, binary, and documentation-only changes.
    • Added checks for title and description quality, workflow security, packaging consistency, and documentation alignment.

Reviews are assertive and scoped per path to what this repository holds, link openbrf/openbrf for the contracts, and switch off the tools that would only produce noise here, each with its reason.

Do not use title keywords as a documentation-only filter.

ignore_title_keywords matches anywhere in the title. A code pull request titled docs: ... or docs(scope): ... is skipped, including changes to theme.json or workflows. Remove these filters unless a separate path-aware check confirms that the pull request changes documentation only.

Contributor Author

@coderabbitai On the outside-diff finding for ignore_title_keywords (.coderabbit.yaml:48-50): this is deliberate, so I am leaving it as it is.

  • It mirrors the core repository (openbrf/openbrf), which skips docs: and docs( titles for the same reason: reviews share one hourly allowance per repository on the open-source plan, and a documentation-only pull request should not spend it.
  • The risk you describe is real, so the comment above the key states the rule: a pull request that changes theme.json must not use the docs type. The repository's own contribution rules and the Conventional Commit types already reserve docs: for documentation.
  • A path-aware alternative does not exist in the schema. path_filters narrows what a review reads but does not skip the review, and a separate workflow for this one key would be more machinery than the allowance it protects.

If a code pull request ever lands with a docs: title, a maintainer can request the review by hand.

@neeo Thanks for clarifying the policy. .coderabbit.yaml Lines 42–47 already document the allowance trade-off and the restriction on theme.json changes. I withdraw the finding on Lines 48–50. No configuration change is needed.

Learning: In openbrf/example-theme, `.coderabbit.yaml` deliberately sets `auto_review.ignore_title_keywords` to `docs:` and `docs(` to preserve the shared repository review allowance for code changes, matching the core repository policy. Documentation-only pull requests should skip automatic review. Pull requests that change `theme.json` must not use the `docs` type. The maintainers accept title-based filtering and prefer it over a separate workflow; do not recommend removing it solely because a code pull request could be mislabeled.
