Summary

Finishes quest/m0/user-dev-shell/repo-config.md and, with it, the user-dev-shell epic. Both are deleted with quest rm, and the epic's one link in quest/m0/README.md is dropped.

  • kixelated/dotfiles#52: the user-level dev-shell-hook runs git submodule update --init for each uninitialized .gitmodules path that flake.nix names as ./<path>, once the .envrc approval gate passes. Includes a test and docs. This is option (a) from the 2026-11-08 decision.
  • The moq.pro PR drops the Codex dev-shell config (.codex/hooks.json, .codex/config.toml, .codex/shell/, nix-devshell/pretooluse-devshell and their tests and check.sh route). It keeps submodule.sh, worktree.sh, tofu-secrets.py, and .codex/environments/environment.toml.
  • The Goal's check passed. In a fresh clone of moq.pro with .codex/ removed and dotfiles#52's hook installed into a temporary CODEX_HOME, codex exec resolved which just to the flake's pinned just-1.59.0, and the hook had initialized moq.

Waiting

Cleared 2026-11-08: kixelated/dotfiles#52 merged and is pulled on this host, and the moq.pro PR dropping the Codex dev-shell config landed.

  • moq-dev/moq.pro: the existing moq.pro draft that drops the Claude direnv.sh SessionStart hook merges. The quest's Plan called that hook already gone, but it is still on moq.pro's main. dotfiles#52 also fixes the cold-first-session case that draft reported.

Choices made without asking

  • Deleted the whole epic rather than giving its README a size, since no agent work remains once these PRs exist. The remaining merges are tracked above.
  • A submodule counts as "needed" when flake.nix contains ./<path> (e.g. path:./moq). The init isn't recursive, and an initialized checkout that's off its pin is left alone.

Issues encountered

  • With a bare env -i environment (HOME, PATH, TERM only), Codex 0.167 runs commands as bash -lc, which ignores BASH_ENV, so which just fails. That happens with the live user-level setup too, so it isn't caused by this change. The check passes with a normal login environment minus the nix/direnv variables.
  • The installed quest binary is older than this tree and rejects its epic titles, so I used bun src/cli/bin.ts.

Follow-ups

  • None recommended.

The user-level dev-shell-hook now checks out uninitialized submodules the
flake uses (kixelated/dotfiles#52), and moq.pro's PRs drop its remaining
Codex and Claude dev-shell config.
