Principal Engineer & Platform Architect
Cloud Platforms · Data Systems · Rules Engines · Security & Compliance · Engineering Leadership
I’m a Principal-level software engineer and technology leader with 20+ years of experience designing, building, and evolving production systems.
My work sits at the intersection of software architecture, cloud infrastructure, data platforms, distributed systems, and compliance-ready engineering. I’m particularly interested in systems that have to evolve over years, operate reliably under real-world constraints, and remain understandable as teams, requirements, and data models change.
I currently lead technology at the Committee on Sustainability Assessment (COSA) and build products through Minibota Labs LLC.
I work comfortably across the stack: architectural when required, close to the code when needed, and focused on helping engineering teams make better technical decisions with less friction.
- Cloud-native platform architecture
- Backend and distributed systems
- Data-intensive applications and pipelines
- Rules engines and domain-specific languages (DSLs)
- Multi-tenant SaaS architecture
- Security, privacy, auditability, and compliance-ready systems
- APIs and systems integration
- Production reliability and observability
- Technical strategy and long-term platform evolution
- Engineering leadership, architecture reviews, and technical mentoring
Rules engines · Data validation · DSL design · Data governance
I’m building RuleGenius, a platform for defining, managing, and executing complex data validation and transformation rules independently from application code.
As part of the platform, I’m designing RuleScript, a declarative domain-specific language (DSL) for portable data validation and transformation rules.
Areas I’m exploring include:
- DSL and language design
- Rule evaluation and execution
- Rule versioning and auditability
- Validation and transformation pipelines
- Separation of domain logic from application code
- Portable execution across APIs, CLI tools, pipelines, and self-hosted environments
RuleScript is currently a work in progress.

AI-assisted workflows · Agriculture · Conversational systems · Data platforms
I’m also building Ruralia, a conversational digital field notebook designed to make farm record-keeping easier through natural interaction rather than traditional data-entry workflows.
The platform combines conversational AI with structured, deterministic application logic for recording and managing farm activities, expenses, sales, observations, labor, and other operational data.
Engineering areas include:
- AI-assisted conversational workflows
- Structured data extraction and validation
- Deterministic application logic around AI components
- Backend services and APIs
- PostgreSQL data architecture
- Cloud-native deployment on Google Cloud
- Multi-language conversational interfaces
- Reporting and operational workflows
At COSA, I lead the technical architecture and long-term evolution of a multi-tenant data and analytics platform supporting international sustainability programs and complex stakeholder ecosystems.
The platform has evolved over many years and handles data collection, validation, assessment, analytics, reporting, traceability, and governance requirements across different organizations and programs.
My work spans:
- Platform and cloud architecture
- Multi-tenant access control and data isolation
- Data ingestion, processing, and validation pipelines
- Rule-driven assessments and calculation engines
- PostgreSQL and analytical data architectures
- APIs and external system integration
- Auditability, provenance, and traceability
- Security and privacy controls
- Compliance-oriented engineering practices
- Production reliability and infrastructure
- Architecture modernization of long-lived systems
Beyond implementation, I provide technical direction, architecture reviews, engineering guidance and mentoring, infrastructure and technology planning, and technical resourcing, making trade-offs across reliability, security, cost, delivery speed, and long-term maintainability.

Before my current platform work, I spent years building and operating systems across telecom, financial services, government, healthcare, retail, and industrial environments.
That work included:
- Large-scale VoIP and call-termination systems
- Real-time routing, authorization, rating, and billing
- Prepaid calling and e-wallet platforms
- SMS and IVR systems
- Financial calculation engines
- National customs systems
- Laboratory information systems for public health
- Retail data collection and inventory systems
- Linux infrastructure and production operations
Working across these environments shaped how I think about failure modes, operational simplicity, data integrity, system boundaries, and long-term maintainability.

I’ve also worked extensively with legacy and long-lived production systems. I’m comfortable modernizing systems incrementally rather than assuming that rewriting everything is the right answer.
I tend to favor:
- Clarity over cleverness
- Simple abstractions with clear responsibilities
- Explicit trade-offs instead of accidental complexity
- Security and operability as architecture concerns
- Incremental modernization over unnecessary rewrites
- AI where it adds value, deterministic systems where correctness matters
- Systems that the next engineer can understand
