Description
Environment
- Linux Mint 22.3 Zena
- Cinnamon 6.6.7 (Muffin)
- mintinstall 8.4.0
- Resolution: 1920x1080
- text-scaling-factor: 1.6
Issue
Clicking the maximize button in Software Manager has no effect — the window does not expand to full screen. This appears to be related to the same scaling issue as linuxmint/cinnamon#13835 and linuxmint/cinnamon#13836.
The window's default size is 800x685 (set in the glade file). With text-scaling-factor=1.6, the content width exceeds the screen's available area when maximized, causing Muffin to refuse or revert the maximize.
Steps to reproduce
- Set
gsettings set org.cinnamon.muffin text-scaling-factor 1.6 - Open Software Manager
- Click the maximize button
- Window does not maximize
Expected
Maximize button should work regardless of text-scaling-factor.
Workaround
Lowering text-scaling-factor to 1.0 allows maximize to work:
gsettings set org.cinnamon.muffin text-scaling-factor 1.0

Correction: the workaround with lowering text-scaling-factor to 1.0 was not actually tested — please ignore that suggestion.

Same issue applies to window content fitting on screen with text-scaling-factor=1.6.
The window has
default-width=800anddefault-height=685in its glade file. With text-scaling-factor=1.6, the effective minimum content size exceeds 1280×1096 CSS pixels — which barely fits on a 1920×1080 screen. Content at the bottom of the window is cut off even when the window is maximized. This is the same class of issue as linuxmint/cinnamon#13835 (notification overlap) and linuxmint/cinnamon#13836 (calendar popup). All are caused by widget layouts using fixed pixel sizes that don't account for
text-scaling-factor > 1.Using relative/percentage sizes or setting a minimum window size proportional to the scaled content would fix this.
