my personal dotfiles, tested and used on Ubuntu 24 & 22 (Zorin OS)
- GNU stow to create symlinks to actual user directories
- Terminal: kitty
- Shell: zsh
- Launcher: albert launcher with search engines like Duden, YouTube, Google
Maps etc.
- themed with a matugen-generated Material You palette (see below Wallpapers section)
- matugen
- generates themes based on wallpaper (see below Wallpapers section)
- git config for local ignores and aliases
- pywalfox to use the material colors in Firefox
fdfor betterfind- Material Bibata Cursor - See Cursors
- git
- stow
- zsh
- kitty
- oh-my-zsh
git clone https://github.com/jgoedde/dotfiles ~/dotfiles
cd ~/dotfiles
./install.shinstall.sh is doing three things:
- stowing the config dirs
- installing the zsh plugins and spaceship prompt
- setting up the wallpaper change timer
It does not download any other dependencies that are listed in Components section. Install them yourself.
After installing kitty, set it as default terminal.
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.default-applications.terminal exec kittyWalls are expected to live in $HOME/Pictures/walls
A systemd timer is set up every hour to change to a random wallpaper from the dir. Then, matugen is used to generate
themes for following apps:
- kitty colors
- bat
- gtk (v3 and v4)
- obsidian
- pywalfox
- fzf
- alberts
widgetsboxmodeltheme (restarts albert to apply, viaalbert restart)
The generated kitty/bat/fzf color configs are committed to the repo (and marked
skip-worktree locally) so a fresh clone has working colors before matugen ever runs.
~~Hack Nerd Font~ JetBrains Mono, used in
kitty/.config/kitty/kitty.conf
Matugen is wired up with Material Bibata Cursor. That setup
changes the cursor colors based on the wallpaper colors. It requires the cursor pack to live under ~/.icons. One
directory in there for each cursor. Something like
.icons
├── Bibata-Material-Apricot
├── Bibata-Material-Beige
├── Bibata-Material-Blush
├── Bibata-Material-Brown
├── Bibata-Material-Charcoal
├── ...etc
└── default
When Matugen is run, it detects the according pre-existing Material Design themed cursor and applies that for either GNOME & GTK Applications, Hyprland compositor or XCursor fallback
