Third GKD preemption (step 2500, ~97min silent) prompted the hardening: the driver launch command is now a bounded retry loop (20 attempts, 2-min backoff) — each relaunch resumes from the volume checkpoint. Matches the watchdog pattern already documented in modal_export.
