refactor(si): drop SI markers, dead guards and duplicated SI code - #723
Conversation
Two dashboards can share a name, so the reset dialog's group loop keys them by dashboardId instead. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01GKFfJCv7rbzXcAYj1DZocd
SI conversion becomes an ordinary versioned migration: the v19->v20, v20->v21 and v21->v22 steps run their conversions directly, gated by configVersion like every other step. The per-widget siVersion marker existed only to re-convert configs an older build still open in another tab wrote back, which is not a supported case. Removed with it: the load-time applySiSteps pass and its upToVersion gating, SI_VERSION_KEY, the siVersion field and its DEFAULT_CONFIG and seed values, AppNetworkInitService.applySiStepsToOwnProfile, and the marker rule in the dashboard schema. Each conversion now deletes its own pre-SI keys, replacing SiStep.staleKeys and its cleanup loop. Stored configs keep a stray siVersion key. Nothing reads it and the schema does not reject unknown keys, so no step strips it. Each step re-checked its own configVersion, which the dispatch already guarantees, and caught every error to return null, which hid the real message behind "could not be migrated". The steps now return the stamped config and let errors propagate; the dispatch throws for a version with no step, so migrateConfig's loop needs no null guard and the upgrade service no skip on null. With no step reporting errors, MigrationMessageSink loses its unused error channel. ISiScaleReset.type and .options were written by the migration but read by nothing; the reset notice lists dashboards and widget names only. boundsToSi now returns whether it reset anything, which also retires its option-path prefix. The v19 branch of runUpgrade duplicated upgradeRemoteSlots except for the write-once backup before conversion and the no-reload guard when the active slot is held back. Both now live in upgradeRemoteSlots, gated on version 19. Refs #719 (item 6) Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01GKFfJCv7rbzXcAYj1DZocd
Before v22 the numeric defaulted to a 'unitless' 0-10 range and the four gauges to 'unitless' 0-100. 'unitless' bounds were applied in the server's display unit, so v22 cannot convert them and resets them to null, which is right; but it also listed every untouched widget in the reset notice. A reset now goes unreported when every reset bound equals the widget's pre-v22 default. The options dialog only converts with deg, Minutes and measures that pathOptionMeasure has already checked convert numbers affinely (or unitless), so convertToUnit never returns null there. Route both directions through presentationValue, the conversion the dialog already shows bounds with. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01GKFfJCv7rbzXcAYj1DZocd
The options dialog kept an unedited option's stored SI value bit-for-bit and Sea Horizon rounded its heel angles back to whole degrees. Both only hid float noise of about 1e-15: the dialog shows options rounded to ten significant digits, and the heel angles feed SVG geometry drawn to two decimals. Save the converted value always and use the degrees as computed. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01GKFfJCv7rbzXcAYj1DZocd
The four gauges each copied the rule that presents their scale in the slot's stored convertUnitTo until the streams directive tags a value. That state is common, not a boot flicker: a path that reports nothing, such as an engine's gauges at the dock, stays untagged for hours. Move the rule into gaugeScaleMeasure beside the other presentation helpers. When the slot stores no unit either, it falls back to SI, so zones still draw. Drop the gauge specs that fed a value with an empty measure, which the directive never delivers for these display slots. WidgetService captures each widget's static OPTION_UNITS when its chunk loads, as it already does for DEFAULT_CONFIG, so the options dialog can read which options a widget stores in SI without a list of its own. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01GKFfJCv7rbzXcAYj1DZocd
The options dialog kept its own tables of SI-stored options beside each widget's OPTION_UNITS, and an option missing from them was shown and accepted as raw SI. The dialog now reads the widget's OPTION_UNITS: an option stored in a fixed unit is shown in that unit's form unit (rad in degrees, s in minutes), and one stored in the SI unit of a path follows that path's presentation unit, structural slots in their fixed unit. The fixed-unit fields take their suffix from the unit symbol instead of a literal, which renders degrees as "deg" like the rest of the app. The slider, whose OPTION_UNITS already declared its scale SI, now goes through the same path: shown in SI as before, with the unit beside it. 📝 Walkthrough
Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to If a user opens a widget's Settings before that widget has finished loading, SI options appear as raw values without unit suffixes. Edited values are then saved without conversion, which can corrupt angle, distance, and scale settings. Waiting for the widget metadata before opening the dialog should be done before merging. RouterOverlayNavigationService closes every open dialog on each NavigationStart, including the router's initial navigation, which starts after the root component's first change detection has already opened the notice. The notice therefore closed unseen on every boot, and its undefined result kept the resets stored for the next boot. The options dialog finds a widget's SI options through WidgetService.getOptionUnits, which is empty until the widget's chunk has loaded. Opened before that, or after a failed load, it showed SI values raw and saved typed values as SI. Host2 and the Freeboard settings panel now await the component type and open nothing when it fails to load. No supported Skip has a v11 active slot: Skip's own config namespace started at app config v12, and configs under the old kip keys are never read. The v11 step stays in the in-memory chain for imports. The persistent upgrade's floor is now its own constant, so a v11 live version no longer reaches runUpgrade, where it would fall into the localStorage v10 path. Review of the fix commits (967b283..8dbd6d1): the correctness and testing reviewers found nothing. They listed residual risks with no trigger shown: a dashboard locked or a host destroyed while a widget chunk loads, and an initial navigation that never ends. The dead v10 branch that a v11 call reaches at service level is tracked in #724. Testing also noted that the Settings-action spec waits on a single microtask, which is deterministic today; I'm leaving it. |

Summary
This removes the SI pipeline's per-widget
siVersionmarkers along with dead guards and duplicated code, and fixes two bugs in the SI reset notice. The markers existed only so an older Skip build still open in another tab could write unconverted configs back, which is not a case Skip supports. Net change: about 880 lines added, 1420 removed.Closes #719
Migration
applySiStepspass, itsupToVersionparameter,SI_VERSION_KEY, the widgetsiVersionfield and defaults,AppNetworkInitService.applySiStepsToOwnProfileand the schema'ssiVersionrule are gone.siVersionkey; nothing reads it, and the schema accepts unknown keys. External writers such as kip-mcp-server no longer have a marker to get wrong. Writers targeting a Skip release earlier than 1.6.0 must keep writingsiVersion: those releases still convert marker-less SI options on load.null.migrateOneAppVersionthrows for a version with no step, so the real error reaches the caller, and the "could not be migrated" guards it made unreachable are removed.ConfigurationUpgradeService. A v19 slot is still backed up before any converted config is written.SiStep.staleKeysand the unreadISiScaleReset.type/.optionsare gone; each conversion deletes its own renamed keys.Fixes
convertUnitTo: 'unitless'. Such a bound meant "in the server's display unit", so it cannot be kept as SI and is still reset to auto-scale. But a widget whose reset bounds equal those old defaults is no longer reported. A user who had deliberately set exactly the default range is reset without being listed; the auto-scaled result looks the same.Presentation
OPTION_UNITS, whichWidgetServicenow caches when the widget loads, as it already didDEFAULT_CONFIG. Field suffixes come from the same source. Declaring an SI option now takes the widget'sOPTION_UNITS, the form field, and a migration step; CLAUDE.md lists exactly these.?? 0/?? 1andconverted == nullguards in the dialog;gaugeScaleMeasure, for showing their scale in the slot's stored unit before the first value. A silent path, such as engine gauges at the dock, keeps that state for hours, so the fallback stays rather than being deleted. The streams directive's equivalent fallback stays too; its comment now names the two windows that reach it on a supported server: REST meta backfill, and object-path fields while unit preferences load.UnitsService.getRenderableUnitSymbolinstead of reimplementing it.Visible changes

SI-stored options now use each widget’s
OPTION_UNITSto show and save values in the relevant presentation unit. When a gauge has no tagged stream measure, it uses the slot’s stored unit for its scale and zones.During v19→v20, v20→v21, and v21→v22 migrations, SI conversions run once as version-gated steps. When a scale bound has no convertible unit, migration clears it; it reports a reset only when the value differs from the widget’s old default. The reset notice groups dashboards by ID, so dashboards with the same name remain separate.
The migration cleanup removes per-widget
siVersionmarkers and load-time SI processing. The shared slot-upgrade path also handles the v19 backup before conversion. The supplied summary reports that
