#687 slice 2: truthful spec link, a remedy that runs, and an orphan report

Refs #687 (leaves it open: per Vera's Q3 ruling, it closes only after a run against a deployed server shows the partial-failure path and the lint report). Slice 1 shipped in #689/#691; the server gate went in hadron-server#1307.

1. spec link is safe to rerun (internal/cmd/spec/link.go). It is the repair supersede and the new report name, so a second run must not stack a duplicate edge.

  • An outgoing edge to the same target under the same label already exists: report ✓ already linked (JSON alreadyLinked: true, the existing edgeId), write nothing. Same under --dry-run.
  • A different label is a different edge and is still written.
  • The write fails: re-read the source. If the edge is there (a concurrent run won; the server refuses the duplicate loc with an opaque error), report it as already linked; otherwise the mapped error stands (a denial exits Forbidden and claims nothing).

2. The preflight route back-edge remedy runs (internal/cmd/coding/preflight_route.go:209). It printed hadron edge create --from <loc> --to <loc> with no -m, which edge create refuses locally. It now carries -m, like the other four edge create remedies. A new test runs each printed remedy, exactly as printed, against a fake server: the route one (red on main) plus the preflight create and review create ones (green, pinned).

3. spec lint --unwired (internal/cmd/spec/lint_unwired.go), per Vera's Q1/Q2 ruling as narrowed in team chat #36507/#36508. It's opt-in and only looks at legacy-grammar citations. Each missing edge that legacy spec new plans is reported at info level, so it never fails --strict:

  • the table-of-contents edge to the parent, under any label;
  • the inheritance edge to the contract, under inheritEdgeLabel;
  • each only when the target exists.

Each finding prints the exact hadron spec link <loc> <target> -m <memory> --label "<label>", and lint writes nothing. Out-of-scope targets are resolved once each; a failed lookup stops the report rather than reading as "absent". The default lint is unchanged, so #708's "a spec owes no parent" holds, pinned by TestSpecLintDefaultHasNoUnwiredFindings.

Docs: the spec link help, agentic-usage.md and docs/how-to/maintain-product-specs.md.

Red first

  • 9ad294b: spec link tests. On main, the already-linked run writes again, the dry run doesn't say "already linked", and the lost race reports an error.
  • ae57ebb: printed-remedy tests (route remedy red).
  • 0dd6038: lint --unwired tests (unknown flag on main).

The fix commit also corrects that red commit's batch fixture, which keyed edge names as label; the batch read selects name.

Checks

go test ./..., go vet ./... and golangci-lint run are clean locally. make tools-manifest-check needs a current hadron-server checkout; this PR adds no MCP-mapped command or tool.

Not in scope

  • No write path for repair (Q1: lint reports, the author runs spec link).
  • No change to Duygu's corpus.
  • No server change.
  • The opaque server error on a duplicate edge loc (it surfaces as INTERNAL_SERVER_ERROR) is a server matter. This PR handles it by re-reading, and leaves the server alone.

Seats per the CHECKED gate (T1): one cross-family BLIND, one LOCAL, QA through the CLI. UX is waived; §10 is n/a.

…al (#687)

Red on main: an existing link is written again, a dry run over it does not
say so, and a duplicate refused after a concurrent create is reported as an
error although the edge exists.

…gain (#687)

spec link is the repair supersede and the orphan report name, so a rerun
must not stack a duplicate edge: an outgoing edge to the same target under
the same label is reported as already linked (alreadyLinked, its edgeId)
and nothing is written. When the write fails, a re-read decides: the edge
there (a concurrent run won) is the link; otherwise the mapped error stands.

Worker: Rook (security-engineer) <hrn:worker:hadronmemory.com:hadron-dev-team:rook>
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Red on main: preflight route's back-edge remedy prints bare locs with no -m,
which edge create refuses before reaching the server. The preflight create
and review create remedies already run; they are pinned beside it.

#687)

The remedy printed bare locs with no memory, which edge create refuses
locally; it now names the memory the route was written in, like every
other coding remedy.

…ns (#687)

Red on main (no --unwired): each legacy-grammar spec missing its planned
parent or inheritance edge gets one info finding that prints the exact
spec link, never failing --strict. The default lint reporting no wiring
(#708) is pinned beside it.

Worker: Rook (security-engineer) <hrn:worker:hadronmemory.com:hadron-dev-team:rook>
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…spec link that adds each (#687)

The repair report for specs whose create half-failed (Vera's ruling on #687,
narrowed in team chat #36507/#36508): opt-in, legacy-grammar citations only,
info level so it never fails --strict, and each finding prints the exact
spec link. Planned means what planTarget wires: the table-of-contents edge to
the parent (any label, since a renamed spec keeps its edge) and the
inheritance edge to the contract (under its label), each when the target
exists; an out-of-scope target is resolved once, and a failed lookup stops
the report rather than reading as absent. The default lint is unchanged
(#708). The red test's batch fixture keyed edge names as "label"; the
batch read selects "name", so the fixture now says name.

QA PASS at exact head 8955347 (task 01a1761d165b71d2811b7514d6fd6d80). Compiled CLI at this head against a private fresh stack (hadron-server main), memory owner alpha-owner, legacy fixture corpus (never Duygu's).

  • spec lint --unwired: 7 info findings on a half-wired corpus (existing TOC edge under another label suppresses its finding), exit 0 even with --strict; default lint has no unwired finding. All printed spec link commands run as printed and clear the report; rerunning them all: "already linked", no duplicates.
  • spec link: rerun / --dry-run / --json (alreadyLinked, edgeId) correct; a different label adds an edge; 3 trials x 4 parallel identical links: 1 linked + 3 already linked, one edge each; non-member gets exit 4, nothing written or claimed.
  • Supersede's spec link remedy after a real supersede: already linked, exit 0.
  • Preflight route: with the back-edge blocked, exit 1 and the printed remedy (now with -m) ran exactly as printed and created the edge.

Limits: reader-member Forbidden path not reached (member/share management refused on the stack), real read-failure/lookup-failure branches not forced, supersede partial failure not forced, Linux only, go test not re-run. CHANGES REQUESTED — LOCAL — hadron-cli#1083 / #687 slice2
Exact head 8955347; base b59fdd4.
Author Rook (Claude Opus5.5), reviewer Joost (Codex/OpenAI), cross-family and neither author/CM/BLIND. Detached checkout /home/orca/scratch/joost1083. Saved before peers; no peer verdicts/summaries read.

P2 — internal/cmd/spec/lint_unwired.go:74-77, using spec.go:1364/1396 projection. Foreign-memory edges with matching target locs incorrectly satisfy local planned wiring. hasOutEdge compares only e.Loc/name; nodeFromGQL/nodeFromBatch discard target.memoryId even though the wire carries it. spec new's planned targets and spec link remedies resolve within the selected memory. A cross-reference to another corpus's msg:010 or msg:010:00 therefore must not hide missing edges to the local nodes. Reviewer-run command harness: start unwiredCorpus, give msg:010:03 outgoing edges named Third -> msg:010 and inheritEdgeLabel -> msg:010:00, but both targets have memoryId foreign-memory; local targets still exist. spec lint --prefix msg:010 -m <fixture corpus> --unwired --json returns ZERO findings for msg:010:03 instead of the two local missing-edge findings. The foreign target locs collide, not their identities. Preserve/check target memory identity (or resolved target id) for this report; pin foreign same-loc edges beside ordinary same-memory controls, including both single-node and batch projections. Do not change other lint policies incidentally.

P3 optional — lint_unwired.go:64 and remedy_runs_687_test.go:25-48. %q is Go string quoting, not POSIX-shell quoting. A legitimate title containing $USER yields a double-quoted label that a shell expands, so the command does not preserve the label as printed. The test parser uses strconv.Unquote and cannot catch this difference. Prefer shell-safe argument quoting and a literal-dollar/quote-label pin. Existing edge-create remedy patterns have the same limitation; this is nonblocking for the bounded memory/id fix.

Checks/evidence:

  • Read issue687, attach6373763147, ruling6382351199, gate6385469494 and PR's narrowed opt-in legacy-only/info boundary. Compared unwiredFindings with planTarget/planContract and Citation.Parent/InheritedContractLoc across product/module/feature/rule/flow and reserved contracts. Default lint is opt-in unchanged (spec: remove fixed legacy hierarchy checks without waiting for replacement types #708). Parent under any label and inheritance under fixed label are intentional. Reads/errors/caching reviewed; no write from lint, no full edge-set replacement.
  • spec link existing-edge identity uses target ID+label and is distinct from the loc-only report bug. Rerun/dry-run, different label, lost race, genuine denial and no-success-on-denial controls PASS. Printed route remedy now includes -m. Shipped parser/run tests for route, preflight create and review create PASS; shell-quoting limit above disclosed.
  • Reviewer-run go test ./... PASS, go vet ./... PASS, lint0 issues, make generate zero drift, inventory61Q114M PASS; focused spec link/remedy/unwired/default tests PASS after restoration.
  • Independently checked each exact red commit:9ad294b rerun attempts unexpected CreateEdge, dry-run lacks already-linked, race errors; ae57ebb printed route command refuses locally for missing -m; 0dd6038 refuses unknown --unwired. All compiled and failed assertions for the stated missing behavior; restored frozen head.
  • Foreign-memory probe TestJoost1083ForeignCorpusEdgeDoesNotWireLocalSpec FAILS with expected2/got0. Test source retained at /tmp/joost1083-probe.go; durable repro details above. Captured immediately in hadron-dev-team-joost:findings:cli1083-unwired-foreign-loc. Probe file removed, checkout clean; no author branch changes or running tests/servers.
  • Live exact head/CI4/4 SUCCESS verified. No compiled live-server QA, stack, deployed-provider proof or customer corpus writes. Q3 closure condition remains: spec new/link: use the sanctioned wiring path and report recoverable partial failures #687 stays open for deployed partial-failure/lint acceptance; this review does not close it. No release/deployment claim.

BLIND — CHANGES REQUESTED at exact head 895534752b0aac78464551bb25b3fc3b89088ec3. Named holder Greta / Codex/OpenAI; author Rook / Claude, cross-family. Saved and read back before peers: hrn:node:hadronmemory.com:hadron-dev-team-greta:reviews:cli1083-blind-89553475.

Verbatim fresh diff-only run output:

  • P2 — internal/cmd/spec/lint_unwired.go:65: Printed remedies do not safely quote labels for a shell. Go’s %q produces a Go string literal, whereas shell double quotes still expand $variables, command substitutions, and backticks. A title containing $HOME, for example, creates an edge with a different label when the printed command is pasted into Bash. Use a proper shell argument quoting function and test labels containing shell metacharacters.

  • P3 — internal/cmd/remedy_runs_687_test.go:21: The remedy parser does not model the shell it claims to model. strconv.Unquote applies Go escaping rules and skips shell expansion entirely, so these tests cannot substantiate “runs exactly as printed” and miss the quoting defect above. Use a shell-compatible parser for argument tests, plus a controlled shell execution test for literal preservation.

  • P3 — internal/cmd/spec/link.go:173: Completeness of the duplicate check cannot be established from this diff. existingLink only examines returned OutgoingEdges. If that collection is limited or paginated, reruns can miss an existing edge, and the error recovery may miss it again. I would need the GetNode query and server collection guarantees to judge this. Add coverage for a link beyond any response limit, or use a targeted existence query.

  • P3 — internal/cmd/spec/lint_unwired.go:93: Out-of-scope target eligibility is insufficiently covered. The resolver implementation is absent, so I cannot establish whether a successfully resolved target is necessarily a spec that spec link accepts. Existing tests cover absent targets and generic lookup failures, but not an existing non-spec target. Verify that case and suppress findings whose proposed repair cannot execute.

CHANGES REQUESTED

Run by Greta (Codex/OpenAI), actual model gpt-6.1-sol / openai, verified from CLI header. Fresh ephemeral process, empty working directory, diff and standard blind prompt only; user config/rules/project docs disabled, no MCP user configuration, shell/exec/agents/search disabled. Exit 0, no tool calls observed. No issue/gate/repo/peer artifacts were input to that review run. Recipe and raw output hash are saved in the node.

Supplementary requested tests: after saving the blind verdict, prepared a clean exact-head detached clone and selected all 13 tests from the four changed test files across ./internal/cmd and ./internal/cmd/spec. Execution was BLOCKED env before any test ran: go executable absent (FileNotFoundError), including standard/existing toolchain locations checked. No compiler installed, no tests or server stack run, no green result claimed. The isolated clone/empty blind directory were removed. This did not alter the blind output or its P2.

This is the BLIND seat only, not LOCAL/QA or merge authority. One P2 requires repair or an evidence-backed response; the three P3s are non-blocking. No author-branch changes made.

…s local wiring (#687)

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
)

hasOutEdge compared target locs alone, so an edge to msg:010 in another
corpus hid the missing local edge. Both read projections now carry the
node's memory and each target's, and hasOutEdge requires them to match.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
)

remedyArgs split with strconv.Unquote, which skips shell expansion, so
it could not catch a Go-quoted label that a pasted command expands. The
tests now split with sh, and labels carry $HOME, backticks, quotes, a
backslash and $(...).

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
%q is a Go string literal; shell double quotes still expand $, backticks
and backslashes, so a label carrying them changed when the printed
command was pasted. cmdutil.ShellQuote single-quotes any word that needs
it, and the spec link remedy from spec lint --unwired and the five
edge-create remedies in coding preflight/review now use it.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…argets with edge create (#687)

spec new plans an edge to whatever node holds the parent or contract loc,
but spec link refuses a non-spec endpoint, so an unwired remedy naming
one could not run. exists now reports whether the target is a spec (still
always true, so only the new assertions fail).

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…with edge create (#687)

spec link refuses a non-spec endpoint, so a remedy naming one could not
run as printed. A non-spec source is lint's missing-spec-tag case and is
skipped; a non-spec target keeps its finding (spec new plans that edge)
with an edge create remedy. Out-of-scope targets are now read, not just
resolved, so their spec-ness is known.

Fix head d2a4bccf3f56736413480726012130de5d74a364 (CI 4/4 green, CLEAN). Delta from the frozen head 895534752b: git diff 895534752b..d2a4bccf -- . ':!internal/api' ':!internal/cmd/team' ':!internal/cmd/spec/edit.go' (the merge brings in main's #1082/#887 and #804 work; main touched the specs how-to and agentic-usage.md, which this PR also edits).

Each fix has a red commit first:

Finding Seat Disposition Commits
P2: a same-loc edge into another memory hid missing local wiring LOCAL (Joost) Fixed. Both read paths now carry the node's memory and each target's memory, and hasOutEdge requires them to match. Pinned through the single-node and batch reads, each with a same-memory control. red 3d28627, fix db1f280
P2 / P3: %q remedies aren't shell-safe BLIND (Greta) P2, LOCAL (Joost) P3 Fixed for all six printed remedies: spec lint --unwired's spec link, plus the five hadron edge create remedies in coding preflight create/route and coding review create. The new cmdutil.ShellQuote single-quotes any word that needs it, and its test round-trips $, backticks, quotes, a backslash, $(…), globs and newlines through sh. red 3f1f49d, fix cdf94d0
P3: the remedy parser doesn't model the shell BLIND Fixed. remedyArgs and the unwired label test now split the printed command with a real sh -c 'printf %s\0 …' (HOME pinned, so an unquoted $HOME shows as an expansion). The route and preflight-create remedy tests use a label full of metacharacters and assert that the pasted command sends exactly the label the original write used. Extraction is quote-aware, since a quoted label can contain a backtick. 3f1f49d
P3: existingLink may miss edges if outgoingEdges pages BLIND No change. Node.outgoingEdges is [Edge!]! and takes no arguments (schema/schema.graphql:9441). On hadron-server origin/main the resolvers load it with include: { target: true }, with no take or limit, so the collection is complete. An edge whose target is unreadable comes back with a null target, but spec link has already read its target, so that case can't arise here. —
P3: an out-of-scope target that exists but isn't a spec BLIND Fixed. spec new plans an edge to whatever node holds the loc, but spec link refuses a non-spec endpoint. A non-spec target keeps its finding, with a hadron edge create remedy that does run. A non-spec source (an untagged node at a citation loc, which lint already reports as missing its spec tag) is skipped. Out-of-scope targets are now read rather than just resolved, so lint knows whether each is a spec. The flag help, agentic-usage.md and the how-to now say "the command that adds it". red e1c3252, fix 77ff218

Go test, vet, golangci-lint (0 issues) and make generate (no drift) all pass at the merge head. #687 stays open after merge until the deployed-server run (Vera Q3); this PR leaves it open.

APPROVE — LOCAL delta — hadron-cli#1083
Exact frozen head d2a4bcc. Independently compared reviewed895534752b0aac78464551bb25b3fc3b89088ec3 -> fix77ff2180a93b3c05f8bb8ecbaac49025c5c677d9 and actual merge77ff2180 + main70fdafbd36b26888a068e48bba451fadca4319e1 -> d2a4bcc.

My P2 CLOSED: both nodeFromGQL and nodeFromBatch retain source MemoryID and edge TargetMemoryID; hasOutEdge requires same-memory identity as well as loc/label. My original command-harness probe, copied unchanged from /tmp/joost1083-probe.go, now PASSes with both missing-local-edge findings (expected2, got2). New single/batch foreign-memory tests and same-memory controls pass; other lint policies do not consume the new identity fields, so their comparison behavior is unchanged.
My P3 CLOSED: ShellQuote uses conservative bare words or POSIX single quoting with escaped apostrophes. All six remedy sites (five coding edge-create strings plus unwired report) quote every dynamic argument. Tests now use a real sh argv split, retaining literal shell metacharacters rather than Go strconv.Unquote. Existing/default lint remains unchanged and info never fails strict.

Additional actual delta checked: non-spec sources skipped, and targets fetched/cached with spec classification so a non-spec planned target gets an edge create remedy instead of an unusable spec link. Failure is not treated as absent. Unit and command tests pass. Chat disclosed Greta's non-spec-target and paging summaries before this delta; no peer artifact opened. I do not claim independent discovery or ownership of those findings; no link paging code changed.

Merge: parents verified as above; git merge-tree --write-tree yields bfcb4bb75afd5d924ff630fd51152e1904460836, identical to actual HEAD tree, with no conflicts. Inspected the overlapping docs/how-to/maintain-product-specs.md and agentic-usage.md against both parents: slice2 link/unwired documentation and incoming spec804 abstract guidance/family887 sections are retained. Main's source additions are inherited, not extra author fix scope; full head suite below covers composition. No automatic carry inferred just from author's hunk note.

Reviewer-run at this head:

  • go test ./... PASS; lint0 issues; make generate zero drift; inventory61Q114M PASS; focused unwired/default-lint/remedy/ShellQuote tests PASS after all restores.
  • Own exact foreign-edge repro PASS, then removed the temporary probe file.
  • Exact red3d28627 compiles and fails both single/foreign and batch/foreign (got0,want2). Red3f1f49d compiles and fails old printed-remedy extraction/shell splitting for the metacharacter label; this red fails before label equality and is not a separate end-to-end expansion claim. Head's real-shell preservation tests PASS. Rede1c3252 compiles and fails non-spec-source suppression/non-spec-target remedy assertions. Restored exact final head. No additional mutants run this delta.
  • Live head and CI4/4 SUCCESS verified. Checkout clean. No real stack/deployed provider/customer-corpus write, compiled live-server QA, release or deployment claim; Q3 keeps spec new/link: use the sanctioned wiring path and report recoverable partial failures #687 open for its deployed acceptance. QA remains Celine's seat, readiness Eden's. Binding stays open.

QA PASS (delta) at exact head d2a4bccf3f56736413480726012130de5d74a364, task 01a1763918e1790a92c0b9c386fdd13e. Prior: PASS at 8955347.

Compiled CLI on a fresh private stack, synthetic fixtures:

  1. A spec title with $HOME, a backtick and quotes: the printed spec link pasted into bash lands the label literally.
  2. Planned target exists but is not a spec: the printed edge create runs and clears the finding.
  3. A cross-memory edge at the same loc does not hide a local finding.
  4. Preflight route back-edge remedy with a metacharacter label: printed command pasted as printed creates the edge with the literal name.

Limits: four assigned cases only (earlier cases not rerun); server was origin/main 2c24a1dd4, not the newer main; bash only; go test not run. Cleanup: stack celine1083 torn down, port closed.

BLIND delta: APPROVE at d2a4bccf3f56736413480726012130de5d74a364, carrying from reviewed head 895534752b0aac78464551bb25b3fc3b89088ec3. Cross-family: Claude author; Greta Codex/OpenAI seat.

The fresh context-free run closes the P2 shell-quoting finding and the P3 shell-parser finding. Non-spec target handling is substantially addressed. No new P1/P2 established. P3s remain: outgoing-edge completeness cannot be established from this diff; the non-spec remedy is not executed by its test; compatible server schema support for fields in the main-merge delta is externally assumed.

Saved verbatim verdict, read back before peers. Input: complete old→new endpoint delta (including main merge) and my prior findings only. Actual run header: gpt-6.1-sol, openai. Fresh empty-directory ephemeral run without project docs, tools or external context. Tests assessed from source only; no Go execution. The run could not verify server collection/schema guarantees from the supplied delta; those P3 limits do not block approval.
