I'm fairly sure that the database holding all of the api's data also doubles as the test database. I think it would be super useful to include instructions in the apis README, about how to run a local mongo instance on which test data can be stored, and test values queried from.
Would be willing to handle this, as I've set up an local instance in my development environment.
