Use area throughout the Python message API and tests. Prepare version 1.2.0 with matching dependency constraints and release archives.
Validation: 171 tests passed (0 skipped); Ruff lint/format and strict mypy passed. Wheel/sdist builds, metadata checks, sdist rebuild and clean consumer installation passed.
