Embedded Hardware Mainline & Unbrick Lab
BoardPort is a research ecosystem and open laboratory dedicated to giving hardware a second life by transforming vendor-locked devices into autonomous Linux nodes. Driven entirely by community enthusiasm, the project exists as an independent open-source initiative, free from commercial constraints and corporate agendas.
Every year, millions of capable ARM/ARM64 single-board computers, 4G LTE modems, routers, and mobile devices are decommissioned solely due to abandoned vendor software and outdated proprietary kernels. We are changing this paradigm: instead of disposal, we offer deep hardware revitalization—unlocking its true potential and expanding its operational horizons.
Core Focus Areas:
- 🛠️ Low-Level Regeneration: Building containerized tooling for firmware dumping, safe unbricking/recovery (EDL/BootROM), and hardware reverse engineering.
- 🚀 Mainline & Open Bootloaders: Porting open secondary bootloaders (
lk2nd,U-Boot) and adapting fresh vanilla Linux kernels stripped of vendor bloat. - 🌐 Edge Infrastructure: Repurposing forgotten hardware into predictable, energy-efficient micro-servers, network gateways, edge routers, and automation nodes powered by Alpine, OpenWrt, and Debian.
We prove that "e-waste" is merely a symptom of missing software, turning discarded electronics into a solid foundation for distributed infrastructure.
