Summary

Implements #71: documents exact @v0.4.0 vs floating @v0 Action pins (noting @v0 can still receive breaking 0.x changes), automates moving the v0 tag on each v0.x.y release in publish.yml, and creates the current v0 tag at the same commit as v0.4.0.

Type of change

  • Enhancement / feature
  • Documentation

Test plan

  • v0 remote tag points at v0.4.0 (5a01445…)
  • Docs show both @v0.4.0 (preferred) and @v0 (convenience)
  • Next v0.x.y release should retag via publish.yml retag-v0 job

Notes for reviewers

  • publish.yml now needs contents: write so the retag job can force-push v0
  • Tag v0 was already pushed to the repository as part of this work (not only documented)

Document exact vs floating pins, note that @v0 can receive breaking 0.x
changes, and automate moving the v0 tag to each v0.x.y release commit in
publish.yml after PyPI publish.
