Vite admin crash on Strapi 5.50.2: fast-deep-equal has no default export

After upgrading a Strapi project to 5.50.2, the admin panel crashes in development mode with:

Uncaught SyntaxError: The requested module 'http://localhost:1337/admin/node_modules/fast-deep-equal/index.js?...' doesn't provide an export named: 'default'

The issue appears to originate in strapi-plugin-navigation’s react-dnd@16.0.1 dependency, which imports the CommonJS-only fast-deep-equal package as a default export:

import equal from 'fast-deep-equal';

With Strapi’s Vite-based admin server, this nested CommonJS dependency is served without the required interop transformation.

Environment:

• Strapi: 5.50.2
• strapi-plugin-navigation: 3.3.7
• Node.js: 24.13.0 and 22.23.1
• npm: 11.6.2

Temporary workaround:

Add a Vite optimizer include rule to your vite.config:

optimizeDeps: {
   include: ['react-dnd > fast-deep-equal'],
}
