console_quiet=1: drop user space's console output (default under avfboot) - #24

…nder avfboot Phone profile (install 2, 20:51): Scion's avf-console thread at 27% of a host core, handling the 8250's traps for launchd's log of SpringBoard's failed lookups (some 40,000 log events a second, 'Last log repeated'), the daemons' standard error and os_log mirrored to the console. 1003: kmwrite() (behind /dev/console) drops what user space writes when console_quiet=1; kernel printf and panics are not written that way and still come out. avfboot adds console_quiet=1 unless the parameters say console_quiet= themselves (console_quiet=0 for a verbose session). Phone profile (install 2, 20:51): Scion's avf-console thread used 27% of a host core handling the 8250's traps. Most of it was launchd's log of SpringBoard's failed lookups (around 40,000 log events a second, judging by
Last log repeated), plus the daemons' standard error and os_log mirrored to the console.bsd/dev/arm/km.c):kmwrite(), behind/dev/console, drops what user space writes whenconsole_quiet=1. Kernel printf and panics don't go that way and still print.console_quiet=1unless the parameters already containconsole_quiet=. Useconsole_quiet=0for a verbose session.QEMU (avfboot, this kernel, system.apfs on virtio-blk, virtio-gpu):
boot-args: ... console_quiet=1 ..., 941 console lines in 330 s, none of them launchd's, against about 2,800 in 150 s before. No panic; SpringBoard creates its surfaces and draws.🤖 Generated with Claude Code
