feat: simplify dashboard and retire persistent bundles #488

Closed

Description

@Jammy2211

Overview

Simplify the Mind dashboard to seven navigation buttons, put Human Review within Backlog, remove Parked from the page, and retire persistent/automatic Bundles functionality. Explicit grouping remains a task-launch choice.

Plan

  • Remove Bundles and its registry, grouping, and dedicated workflow.
  • Add accurate counters and seven responsive navigation cards.
  • Put Human Review under Backlog and remove Parked presentation.
  • Update regression checks and regenerate dashboard artifacts.

Tier: undeclared — merge mode: human /prm.

Detailed implementation plan

Affected Repositories

  • PyAutoMind (primary)
  • PyAutoBrain

Branch Survey

Both canonical checkouts are on main, clean apart from this task prompt. No conflicting active claims. Existing unregistered pending-release worktrees are preserved.

Suggested branch: feature/mind-dashboard-simplify

Implementation Steps

  1. In Brain agents/conductors/intake/_intake.py, remove parse_bundles,
automatic bundle generation, bundle cards/copy payloads and census membership
handling. Remove the Bundles sections in Markdown and HTML. Remove the
persistent Bundle: header contract while retaining unrelated theme metadata.
  2. In both dashboard renderers, remove Parked presentation while preserving
parked lifecycle data and claim guards. Move human-review rendering beneath
Backlog as a nested category, preserving review-specific copy actions and the
human-review anchor. Include reviews in the displayed Backlog count exactly
once without making them development recommendations.
  3. Render seven navigation destinations: Start here, In flight, Planned,
Backlog, Pending release, Recent, Epics. Supply Start here's unique displayed
recommendation count, Epics' displayed group count and Pending release's
displayed repository count. Keep empty destinations with zero/empty states
so seven links always resolve. Use the shared theme's layout mechanism to
fit seven cards on one desktop row, with responsive wrapping on narrow screens.
  4. Retire Brain skills/start_bundle/ and its installation/discovery/docs
references, plus Mind bundles.md, registry guidance in AGENTS.md and
REFERENCE.md, template entries in scripts/spawn.py, ledger classification
in scripts/ledger_merge.py, and bundle-specific workflow triggers. Preserve
historical completion records and unrelated worktree/batch uses of "bundle".
Explicit grouping at task launch remains a normal task-scoping request.
  5. Update tests/test_intake_dashboard.py and affected template/ledger/skill
discovery tests. Validate HTML and Markdown parity, empty/nonempty counters,
unique recommendations, nested Human Review, seven valid navigation anchors,
and removal of active Bundles dependencies. Inspect the rendered desktop and
narrow layout and check shared-theme consumers if its implementation changes.
  6. Regenerate Mind dashboard.md, dashboard.html, and state.json with the
canonical intake command after implementation. Ship coordinated Brain and
    Mind PRs via start_library / ship_library.

Tier: undeclared — merge mode: human /prm.

Original Prompt

Approved starting prompt

Simplify Mind dashboard and retire persistent bundles

Type: feature
Target: PyAutoMind

Update @PyAutoMind and its renderer/workflow in @PyAutoBrain.
Remove persistent and automatically proposed task bundles and their workflow wiring;
retain the ability to request grouping explicitly when starting work.
Remove Parked from the dashboard, retain underlying lifecycle records, put Human
Review under Backlog, and show seven desktop navigation buttons with accurate counts.

Original user request (verbatim)

PyAutoMind dashboard: - Remove Bundles, we now specify if we want a task to bundle stuff at the start and its easier than keeping
track of bundles int he way we do which becomes outdated. Remove it from dashbpard and any other functionality.

  • Start here should have numerical counter in button.

  • Epics should have numerical counter

  • Pending release needs number.

  • Remove "Parked", I dont want to be constantly reminded of something which is old news.

  • Lets not have "Human Review" as its own deediciated section and have it a sub category in "Backlog", which then

  • means its button disappearss and we have 7 buttons (1 row)

Initial survey

  • Primary repo: PyAutoMind; renderer/workflow repo: PyAutoBrain.
  • Both canonical checkouts on clean main before prompt creation.
  • No active claims conflict. Three unregistered linked worktrees were reported
for pending-release work; preserve them and use isolated task checkouts.
  • Proposed branch: feature/mind-dashboard-simplify.
  • Feature Agent: medium, direct, library workflow; no Memory matches.
  • Heart at entry: STALE (release stale; monitoring red); reassess at ship.

Plan approved by the human in the Codex session on 2026-10-07.

Implementation completed; source commits and PR creation await the ship-library Heart YELLOW acknowledgment.

    • Approved plan: issue feat: simplify dashboard and retire persistent bundles #488, 2026-10-07; human /prm merge remains required.
    • Worktree: /home/jammy/Code/PyAutoLabs/.worktrees/mind-dashboard-simplify
    • Branch: feature/mind-dashboard-simplify in PyAutoBrain and PyAutoMind; implementation is uncommitted.
    • Bundles renderer, registry, membership, skill/discovery wiring and template/workflow references retired.
    • Seven counted navigation links; Human Review nested under Backlog; Parked removed from the page and Recent; lifecycle records retained.
    • Full Brain suite: 1,271 passed (337.27s); full Mind suite: 696 passed (88.83s).
    • Activation exports PYAUTO_ROOT/BRAIN/MIND/HEART/HANDS/TASK; unset those six for hermetic pytest fixtures, retaining Python/cache activation.
    • 10 Chromium cases passed (five widths × two colour schemes); seven cards on one row at 1024/1440px, responsive 390/768px, nested review deep link verified.
    • Dashboard freshness and tenant-firewall checks passed.
    • Logs: each repo's tmp/full-tests-clean-env.log; Brain tmp/browser-tests.log, tmp/browser-evidence/, tmp/tenant-check.log.
    • PR bodies: each repo's tmp/pr-body.md. Merge Brain before Mind; Mind refresh consumes Brain main.
    • Heart YELLOW: manifest drift: workspace checkouts (manifest ↔ disk) — 2 mismatch(es) vs PyAutoMind/repos.yaml
    • Additional stale reason: release validation incomplete: no rehearsal for current source
    • Next: obtain that exact warning acknowledgment, then ship through ship-library; reconcile latest Mind state and regenerate before committing artifacts. No source push, PR or merge has occurred.

    PRs opened (merge order matters):

    1. feat: simplify Mind navigation and retire bundle workflow PyAutoBrain#497 — renderer, intake and skill changes. Merge first.
    2. feat: simplify Mind dashboard and retire bundle registry #489 — registry retirement and regenerated dashboard; depends on Brain#497 because the Mind dashboard workflow reads Brain main. Refresh its generated pages after Brain merges.

Heart YELLOW (manifest drift, 2 mismatches; no rehearsal for current source) was acknowledged by the human before opening. Merge stays with human /prm.

Shipped: PyAutoLabs/PyAutoBrain#497 (merged 5845a2c) then #489 (merged 92c82cb). Seven-card navigation, Human Review under Backlog, Parked hidden, Bundles registry and start-bundle skill retired. Re-run bin/install.sh to prune the stale start-bundle skill link.
