fix: simplify Mind dashboard text and section order #500

Closed

Description

@Jammy2211

Overview

Simplify the Mind dashboard as requested: remove explanatory copy and redundant header controls, move Epics below Start here, and put Pending release last.

Plan

  • Edit agents/conductors/intake/_intake.py: remove the requested explanatory text in HTML and Markdown, including Backlog/Human review introductions and Recent's explanatory paragraph; remove the redundant refresh task and top metadata links; suppress the empty-batch status while retaining active batch information and the existing Update button.
  • Order sections and navigation: Start here, Epics, In flight, Planned, Backlog, Recent, Pending release. Keep task rows, controls, counts and pagination working.
  • Run existing focused dashboard tests, adjusting expectations only where required by the requested presentation; regenerate dashboard.html and dashboard.md through the supported intake command and inspect the rendered output.
  • Proposed branch: feature/mind-dashboard-simplify. Tier: undeclared — merge mode: human /prm.

Affected repositories

  • PyAutoBrain (renderer)
  • PyAutoMind (generated dashboards and task state)

Branch survey

Both canonical checkouts are clean on main. Existing unregistered pending-release worktrees will remain untouched. Isolated task worktrees are under .worktrees/mind-dashboard-simplify.

Original prompt

Simplify Mind dashboard text and section order

Type: maintenance
Difficulty: small
Priority: normal

Update @PyAutoBrain's Mind dashboard renderer and regenerate @PyAutoMind's dashboard outputs.

Original request

Remove "Issued — each has an open GitHub issue and usually a branch."

Remove "Library PRs the ledger records as merged but not yet released, and the in-flight tasks waiting on each. Rendered from the ledger — active.md and the complete/ records — never a live GitHub query; the Brain board's pending-release search is the fresh view, this is what the Mind believes."
remove "234 unstarted prompts and 2 awaiting human review. Unstarted prompts are sorted most-pickable first (priority, then size). 47 of them belong to an epic and are listed only under Epics below."

Remove all the descriptipve text inside Backlog like that within Human review.

remove "The 50 newest things to happen to the work in hand, newest first — issued, filed, flagged for review. Every other section on this page is laid out by state, which is exactly why none of them can answer “what has been happening?”. Shipped work is not here: it is read from complete/index.md, and a thousand records deep it would crowd out everything anyone can still act on. Showing the newest 10; … opens the next 10."

remove "Issued — each has an open GitHub issue and usually a branch."

Move Pending Release down to bottom.

Move Epics up to below "start Here"

Remove "📋 Refresh this page — reconcile finished prompts, then regenerate" which should just be the update button added above now.

Remove "markdown version · GitHub Page No batch in flight."

Implementation plan

  • Edit agents/conductors/intake/_intake.py: remove the requested explanatory text in HTML and Markdown, including Backlog/Human review introductions and Recent's explanatory paragraph; remove the redundant refresh task and top metadata links; suppress the empty-batch status while retaining active batch information and the existing Update button.
  • Order sections and navigation: Start here, Epics, In flight, Planned, Backlog, Recent, Pending release. Keep task rows, controls, counts and pagination working.

  • Proposed branch: feature/mind-dashboard-simplify. Tier: undeclared — merge mode: human /prm.

Initial branch survey

Both canonical repos are clean on main and current with origin. No registered claim conflicts. The worktree helper reports existing unregistered Brain/Mind worktrees on pending-release-published-only and pending-release-catchup; leave these untouched and use isolated task worktrees after approval.

Implemented the approved dashboard cleanup locally on feature/mind-dashboard-simplify in both repositories.

    • Worktree: /home/jammy/Code/PyAutoLabs/.worktrees/mind-dashboard-simplify
    • Brain files: agents/conductors/intake/_intake.py, tests/test_intake_dashboard.py.
    • Mind outputs regenerated: dashboard.md, dashboard.html, state.json.
    • Epics follows Start here; Pending release is last; requested descriptions and redundant header controls removed. Existing Update button, active-batch details, section source icons and pagination retained.
    • Validation: Brain 1271 passed, Mind 696 passed. Full logs: each task checkout tmp/full-tests-clean-env.log. Initial failures were caused by inherited worktree path overrides in tests using temporary repositories; removing those overrides resolved both without code changes.
    • Generated-output freshness, anchors, section order and requested removals verified. All 333 task/activity clipboard buttons preserved.
    • No public library API or scientific workspace impact.
    • Source/output changes remain uncommitted and unpushed pending the ship gate. PR descriptions are prepared in each checkout under tmp/.

Heart verdict: YELLOW, score 85. Exact reasons:

    • manifest drift: workspace checkouts (manifest ↔ disk) — 3 mismatch(es) vs PyAutoMind/repos.yaml
    • release validation incomplete: no rehearsal for current source

Next step: obtain explicit acknowledgement of these Heart reasons under ship_library step 3, then commit/push and open the paired PRs. Merge remains human /prm; merge Brain before Mind. No additional implementation decision is outstanding.

The user explicitly acknowledged the reported Heart YELLOW findings and authorized committing, pushing and opening the paired PRs.

    Heart acknowledgement

The user explicitly authorized shipping with the reported YELLOW findings:

    • manifest drift: workspace checkouts (manifest ↔ disk) — 3 mismatch(es) vs PyAutoMind/repos.yaml
    • release validation incomplete: no rehearsal for current source

This authorizes opening these PRs; merge remains human-controlled.

Opened the paired PRs under the user's explicit Heart YELLOW acknowledgement:

Validation: 1271 Brain tests passed, 696 Mind tests passed. Generated dashboards refreshed from current Mind main and pass the freshness check. No public API or scientific workspace impact. Full test logs remain in each task checkout at tmp/full-tests-clean-env.log.

Mind active state is library-shipped, awaiting-merge, with both PRs and the exact acknowledged Heart reasons recorded. No merge performed. Next: human /prm, Brain #501 before Mind #491.

CI snapshot: Mind #491's refresh check fails because its Dashboard Refresh workflow checks out PyAutoBrain main, which still has the old renderer. Locally, the current PR renderer passes intake dashboard --check. This is the documented cross-repository dependency: merge Brain #501 first, then rerun Mind #491's refresh check (and regenerate against current ledger data if necessary). Brain's Python 3.12/3.13 checks were still running at the snapshot. No checks bypassed and no merge performed.

    Partial /prm result:

    • PyAutoBrain#501 MERGED at 1100c202f1661cda99d4584ab56080b289a72fc5; all head-SHA runs inspected, Python 3.12 and 3.13 passed.
    • PyAutoMind#491 remains OPEN at 4536e226a8cff4c72b3144c9733874eaf4d16091, currently CONFLICTING/DIRTY with main.
    • Every Mind head-SHA run/job inspected: Dashboard Refresh / refresh FAILED at dashboard freshness (self-healing on push to main) with dashboard.md is stale — run pyauto-brain intake --apply dashboard on this branch and commit the result; Spawn Drift / privacy PASSED; Spawn Drift / drift SKIPPED.
    • Failed logs saved to the Mind task worktree at tmp/prm-refresh-failure.log.

Stopped under prm steps 2–3: conflicting/red PRs do not merge. No rerun, bypass, worktree cleanup, or task completion performed. Next: resolve Mind main conflicts and regenerate with the now-merged Brain renderer; then judge fresh CI and run /prm to finish. Brain's closing keyword automatically closed this issue; reopening it because the paired Mind PR and task close-out remain unfinished.

Shipped. PyAutoBrain#501 merged 2026-10-07 (1100c20); PyAutoMind#491 merged 2026-10-08 (736328bc) after merging main and re-rendering the generated dashboard files (conflict was on generated pages only).

Summary: requested dashboard copy removed; Epics now follows Start here and Pending release is last; Update button retained. Validation per PRs: Brain 1271 passed, Mind 696 passed, dashboard freshness check current. Closed out via /prm; record complete/2026/10/mind-dashboard-simplify-2.md (slug suffixed because a September task of the same name already holds the record).
