The Kochi Hummingbird 68 currently has no app integration. This adds discovery for its USB command collection and an overview card that reads and changes Windows/Mac mode. A write is shown as successful only after the keyboard acknowledges it and both mode queries confirm the selected state.

The controller now uses a shared keyboard interface with optional polling/trigger methods, so the HB68 can expose its supported setting while retaining the existing Wuque workspace. HB68 navigation is limited to Overview; unrelated commands are rejected before USB access.

Uses the published @openmouse/keyboard-protocol@1.1.0, which includes the merged keyboard-protocol PR #2 and its follow-up fixes. The temporary fork dependency has been removed.

Validation:

  • npm run check on Node.js 24: production build and all 377 tests pass.
  • Discovery/collection filtering, keyboard-only routing, unsupported-command rejection, and overview-only tabs have regression coverage.
  • Light and dark UI checked locally.
  • Actual TypeScript driver and this UI changed a physical HB68 to Windows and back to Mac on macOS, with acknowledgements and both read-back queries. Original Mac mode restored. This used a local native-HID QA adapter; native browser permission selection was not exercised by that test.

Linux/Windows hosts, firmware version, and unplug persistence remain unverified. Scope is Windows/Mac mode only; protocol evidence and sanitized packets are included in the companion driver PR.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added support for the Kochi Hummingbird 68 keyboard, including its identity in the keyboard panel.
    • Added a Windows/Mac operating-mode selector and a control to refresh keyboard settings. Mode selection is unavailable while the keyboard is busy or its mode cannot be changed; refresh is unavailable while busy.
    • The Hummingbird 68 workspace shows only its available overview controls. Other keyboard families retain their existing workspace tabs.
    • Added localized guidance for choosing an operating mode and verifying changes.

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to d8969

This adds Kochi HB68 Windows/Mac mode controls with Overview-only tabs and a generalized keyboard controller. No actionable merge-blocking risk is evident from the supplied changes.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 01621

The new controls are limited to the selected keyboard’s Windows/Mac mode. Unsupported commands are rejected, and successful writes require acknowledgement and consistent read-back. No introduced security concern was established in the inspected paths, but native browser permission selection, other host platforms, and unplug persistence remain unverified.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — In the inspected command path, the independently writable scope is the concrete HIDDevice held by the active Kochi client. The new adapter grants Windows/Mac mode writes, not the broader Wuque configuration commands; changing device selection does not redirect an already captured command to a replacement client.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Browser device selection uses requestDevice with the combined HID filters. Device replies are accepted only for the stored HIDDevice, expected report ID, and pending command, with frame length and checksum validation. These are permission, routing, and protocol checks, not cryptographic hardware authentication.
  • observed — Overview-only navigation and disabled controls limit the UI surface, but enforcement does not rely on those controls alone: the Kochi adapter rejects unsupported command kinds and invalid mode values before USB access, and the wire encoder independently permits only its fixed command set.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Because the wire protocol has no transaction ID, an exchange failure faults the session to prevent reuse with delayed replies. Closing rejects pending work and removes the report listener; opening rechecks for closure after awaiting device access. Together with queued transactions and active-client checks, these controls contain interrupted operations rather than reporting them as successful.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Consider explicitly marking the displayed mode as uncertain after an interrupted write and showing reconnection instructions for a faulted session, followed by fresh mode reconciliation. This would clarify recovery without weakening the existing fail-closed transaction behavior.
