feat(arbiter): offer onboard Fn functions in the keybinding picker - #1307
Lets the keybinding picker assign the boards' own Fn-layer functions, which a Polar 65+ owner decoded from hardware (see keyboard-protocol#10): RGB mode (148), color switch (202), brightness up/down (204/205), effect speed up/down (206/207), factory reset (224), game mode (243).
Problem: these codes had no label (arbiterKeyLabel returned null by design) and belonged to no picker category, so they rendered as bare Code N and couldn't be chosen — including restoring them to other keys. The per-position restore button only covers the factory slot.
Change:
arbiter-labels.ts: names for the 8 codes + a new onboard picker category listing them.
ArbiterKeyboardPanel.tsx: onboard in the category dropdown (kb.arbCatOnboard).
i18n: kb.arbCatOnboard in English + all 11 locales (non-English names are provisional — happy to take corrections).
Tests updated to the new behavior (every factory code now has a label; 204/224 categorize as onboard).
Writes use the existing read-back-confirmed key-mapping path, same as any other code. Key names stay plain English like the rest of NAMED (only the category label is translated, matching current convention).
Verification:npm run build clean, full npm test 589/589, npm run size ok. Tracked alongside keyboard-protocol#10.
Note
Add onboard Fn function keys to Arbiter keybinding picker
Adds an onboard category to ARBITER_KEY_CHOICES and labels for 8 onboard Fn-layer codes (148, 202, 204, 205, 206, 207, 224, 243) covering lighting, game-mode, and reset functions in arbiter-labels.ts
Maps the new category to the kb.arbCatOnboard translation key in ArbiterKeyboardPanel.tsx and adds translations across all 12 locale catalogs
Updates the coverage tests in arbiter-deck.test.ts: reserved FN codes are no longer exempt from the label coverage check, and codes 204 and 224 now expect the onboard category
Behavioral Change: arbiterKeyLabel now returns names instead of null for the 8 added codes; previously uncategorized codes 204 and 224 appear under the new "Onboard functions" category in the picker
The PRO boards' Fn layer carries vendor codes that drive keyboard
functions locally (RGB mode, color switch, brightness/speed, factory
reset, game mode) — decoded from hardware by a Polar 65+ owner. They
had no label and no picker category, so they showed as bare codes and
could not be assigned to other keys. Adds an Onboard functions
category with hardware-confirmed names; writes go through the normal
read-back-confirmed key-mapping path. Non-English category names are
provisional.

Walkthrough
The Arbiter key picker adds an onboard category with labels and choices for onboard key codes. The keyboard panel and supported locale tables add a translated category name, and tests verify key-label coverage and category assignment.
Changes: Arbiter onboard key category
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Define onboard keys and picker choices src/device/arbiter-labels.ts, src/device/arbiter-deck.test.ts
The key category, labels, and picker choices now include onboard key codes. Tests check labels for nonzero codes and verify that codes 204 and 224 use the onboard category.
Wire and translate the category src/features/devices/cards/ArbiterKeyboardPanel.tsx, src/i18n/index.ts, src/i18n/locales/*
The keyboard panel maps the onboard category to a translation key. The English message table and locale tables add the category label.
The picker allows assigning factory reset without confirmation, creating a risk of accidentally resetting saved keyboard settings on a later keypress. Remove that choice or confirm the assignment before merging.

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — Adds an Onboard functions category for explicitly assigning existing keyboard functions, with translated category labels. Existing bindings and defaults remain unchanged; device actions require user-directed remapping and activation.

Assert the full onboard picker set in the picker test.
The new assertions in the picker lists only codes that have a label, each in one category check only codes 204 and 224 in the onboard category. Removing 205 or 206 from ARBITER_KEY_CHOICES.onboard leaves the tests in this file passing. Both codes keep their labels, so the label checks still pass. No test asserts that they appear in the picker, so a future edit can drop one of these onboard functions without a failing test. Add an exact-membership assertion against the intended supported set, and update the expected list when that set changes.
🧪 Suggested test assertion
assert.equal(arbiterKeyCategory(224), "onboard");
+ assert.deepEqual([...ARBITER_KEY_CHOICES.onboard].sort((a, b) => a - b), [148, 202, 204, 205, 206, 207, 224, 243]);
});

Correct the arbiterKeyLabel doc comment. Null does not mean the code is impossible.
The comment says null means "a code no keyboard can carry". The function returns null for any nonzero code outside NAMED and the letter, digit, and F1–F12 ranges. The protocol accepts keyCode values from 0 to 255, and its docs name 250 as a vendor key code ("Play"). arbiterKeyLabel(250) returns null, so the comment is wrong for valid codes. The base comment said only that unnamed vendor codes return null, which was accurate.

Exclude factory reset (code 224) from the rebinding picker.
The new onboard category offers code 224, labeled "Factory reset." assign() in ArbiterKeyboardPanel.tsx sends the selected code at once, with no confirmation. A later press of that key can reset the keyboard's saved configuration. Remove 224 from the picker, or require a confirmation before this assignment is sent.
