Get the work into the paper

Start with a journal article, a thesis, or a talk. Bring an existing manuscript or choose a template, then keep the work around it close:

  • Search scholarly indexes, import your reference library, and cite a source while you write.
  • Edit equations and figures, navigate a long manuscript, and check spelling and grammar locally.
  • Ask the assistant to revise a section, fix a build, or turn an idea into an editable diagram using the files in your project.
  • Compile, inspect the PDF, and run submission checks before exporting the paper or packaging its source.

Keep writing. Put an agent to work.

Give a Research Task a focused brief: check the sources behind a claim, analyze a dataset, or revise the methods section. The agent works in a separate copy of the project while you keep writing. Review the changed files, apply what you want to keep, and compile the result. The task stays with the project.

Bring Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, or another supported CLI agent through its own account. You can also connect a hosted model or use Ollama locally. Connect external assistants through MCP, or use the editor with AI switched off.

Use research skills for literature reviews, claim checks, and responses to reviewers. Save a procedure of your own for the next project.

Research Tasks and CLI agent support are in beta. See the research workflow.

Keep the work yours

Your manuscript, sources, and figures live in plain folders on your computer. Successful compiles save checkpoints you can return to. Use Git when you want commits, diffs, and shared history, with GitHub sync available in the app.

The desktop app is free under AGPL-3.0. Open your files in another editor whenever you want. Your work stays useful beyond any one app.
