  • Create exporter using opentelemetry_application_insights::Exporter::new_from_connection_string.
  • Configure Application Insights specifics using .with_ functions on the exporter.
  • Create and configure trace, metrics, and logs providers using opentelemetry_sdk::trace::SdkTracerProvider, opentelemetry_sdk::metrics::SdkMeterProvider, and opentelemetry_sdk::logs::SdkLoggerProvider.

  In detail, here are replacements for functions on the removed pipeline API:

  • new_pipeline_from_env --> Exporter::new_from_env
  • new_pipeline_from_connection_string --> Exporter::new_from_connection_string
  • pipeline_builder.with_sample_rate --> exporter.with_sample_rate
  • pipeline_builder.with_resource_attributes_in_events_and_logs --> exporter.with_resource_attributes_in_events_and_logs
  • pipeline_builder.with_trace_config --> individual functions on TracerProviderBuilder
  • pipeline_builder.with_service_name --> create resource using Resource::builder().with_service_name(...).build() and apply using .with_resource(...).
  • pipeline_builder.with_live_metrics --> create span processor using opentelemetry_application_insights::LiveMetricsSpanProcessor::new(exporter, runtime) and apply using .with_span_processor(...). The live metrics span processor requires an async runtime and an async client. Therefore you probably also want to use an async span processor for general trace collection.

• Breaking: The trace feature no longer enables the opentelemetry_sdk/experimental_trace_batch_span_processor_with_async_runtime feature.
