Accepted broadcasts currently run to completion, even when they were scheduled for the wrong time or need to be stopped. I added tenant-scoped cancellation for accepted and expanding broadcasts, and rescheduling before expansion starts.

The controls serialize with snapshotting and message handoff in PostgreSQL. A stale poller cannot start the old schedule, and cancellation waits for handoffs already in progress before blocking new ones. Messages already queued continue through delivery. Recipient lists and analytics report cancelled recipients separately, including campaigns whose snapshot was only partly built.

I also corrected UTC analytics bucketing on databases configured with a different timezone, and rewrote the README with Mermaid architecture and lifecycle diagrams, current capabilities, verified-sender setup and working control examples.

Validation: the full Go test suite and race detector against real PostgreSQL and Redis, go vet, formatting, native and Linux amd64/arm64 builds, migration rollback/reapply, and a running-API smoke test covering scopes, tenant isolation, rescheduling, cancellation and replay. The repository vulnerability scan passed with no reachable vulnerabilities reported. Docker image validation was unavailable because the local daemon was stopped. Both Mermaid diagrams and the README links and shell examples were checked.

Apply migration 000035 and upgrade all MailX processes before using the controls. Rolling the migration back preserves cancelled broadcasts as failed records so they cannot resume.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Broadcasts can be cancelled or rescheduled through the API. Cancellation stops further message handoffs while allowing already queued messages to continue; rescheduling is available before expansion.
    • Broadcast analytics report cancelled recipients, and recipient listings reflect cancellation status.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Analytics time-series buckets use UTC regardless of the database timezone.
  • Documentation
    • Updated the README with a local-stack quick start, verified-domain email walkthrough, configuration guidance, and expanded API examples.

📝 Walkthrough

The change adds tenant-scoped broadcast cancellation and rescheduling. Database operations and expansion checks coordinate control changes with recipient handoffs. API responses and analytics include cancelled-recipient status. The README and project records describe the controls and related behavior.

Changes: Broadcast controls and reporting

Layer / File(s) Summary
Database control state and handoff rules
internal/database/broadcast_control.go, internal/database/broadcasts.go, internal/database/messages.go, internal/database/migrations/*, internal/database/broadcast_control_test.go
Database operations add cancellation and rescheduling with state and due-time checks. Message insertion validates the recipient and marks it materialized in the same transaction. The migration adds the cancelled status and defines rollback behavior.
Expansion and handoff fencing
internal/database/broadcast_expansion.go, internal/broadcast/expander.go, internal/broadcast/control_test.go
Expansion activation, snapshots, and claims check broadcast state and schedule. The expander stops on state conflicts and retries saved-file cleanup after a conflicting insert. Tests cover stale processing and partial cancellation.
Control API and analytics
internal/api/broadcast_control.go, internal/api/routes.go, internal/api/openapi.go, internal/api/*test.go, internal/api/analytics_handler.go, internal/database/analytics.go, internal/database/analytics_timezone_test.go
The API exposes cancellation and rescheduling, validates request bodies, and documents cancelled statuses. Analytics add cancelled counts and UTC time buckets. Tests cover API behavior, contracts, counts, and timezone handling.
README walkthrough and project records
README.md, .ilana/architecture.md, .ilana/decisions.md, .ilana/ledger.md, .ilana/milestones.md, .ilana/risks.md, .ilana/state.json
The README documents local setup, email submission, system behavior, broadcast controls, configuration, development, and project status. Project records document broadcast control behavior, migration details, and verification.
