chore: roll up stevenmunn312-tech reports for Design Studio for FastLED #1689
Description
Context
Roll up 13 issues filed by @stevenmunn312-tech in FastLED/fbuild as of 2026-10-21. These reports describe integration problems encountered by Design Studio for FastLED, primarily on Windows. All 13 tracked reports are now closed.
Proposal
Use this issue as the coordination parent, with all 13 reports attached as native sub-issues. Keep reproduction steps, implementation discussions, and validation evidence in the original reports. GitHub’s sub-issue status provides the progress view.

Fix pull requests
All six fix PRs below are merged, and their original reports are closed.
| Report | Fix PR |
|---|---|
| #1673 — Windows long paths | #1674 |
| #1672 — SAMD architecture and interrupt linkage | #1690 |
| #1671 — Renesas core and Windows includes | #1691 |
| #1670 — Pico boot2 and framework variant | #1692 |
| #1658 — Link overflow region summaries | #1693 |
| #1656 — Large library archiving | #1696 |
Focused failing/passing reproductions and validation evidence are recorded in each PR. Complete native Windows jobs have passed for all six production fixes. The stronger Pico USB-string assertion also passed its complete Windows replay (run 39733455134). Exact tested heads and run links are recorded in each PR. The maintainer explicitly instructed skipping Bosn. Its repository snapshot requirement and the blocking local-proof dependency are tracked in #1698, with the fix in #1699: make local proof advisory and let real hosted validation run independently. PR #1699 is merged after all hosted checks passed. Local proof is now advisory on main; no attestations were fabricated and no repository copies were created. All six fixes were rebased and validated sequentially using hosted CI before normal merges. Expanded Windows coverage exposed a separate ClearCore GCC9 header-resolution problem, tracked in #1701 with fix #1702; the fix is merged and #1701 is closed. Full Windows run 39820514191 passed on final rebased head b0fdf92, including all firmware builds, workspace Clippy/tests, large-archive regression, ESP32-S3 overflow, managed source-tool reuse and long-path repair/fallback smoke. All current hosted PR checks also passed before the normal merge. The earlier esptool probe timeout did not repeat and remains recorded in #1702. This follow-up is outside the 13-report authorship snapshot.
Acceptance criteria
- All 13 reports are attached as native sub-issues, retaining their existing state.
- Each open report reaches a documented resolution in its own issue, including release or downstream verification information where applicable.
- Bug fixes include a focused failing test or reproduction before implementation and passing evidence afterward (RED → GREEN).
- Close this coordination issue once all tracked reports are resolved.
Decisions
-
Include both open and closed reports because the requested scope is all issues by this author; closed reports provide the integration history.
-
Scope is issue authorship by
stevenmunn312-tech, excluding pull requests and issues where the account only commented. -
Existing closed states are recorded as GitHub status, without asserting that every fix was independently verified in this roll-up.
-
Preserve any existing parent relationships; the initial audit found none for these 13 reports.
-
This is a snapshot of current reports; add future reports explicitly as needed.
-
ESP8266 deployment report deploy: no deployer for Espressif8266, so ESP8266 boards build but cannot be flashed #1657 is excluded at the maintainer’s request while waiting for the board to arrive in two days. The standalone issue remains open; it is outside this roll-up’s completion criteria.
Completion audit
- All 13 native sub-issues are closed; ESP8266 deploy: no deployer for Espressif8266, so ESP8266 boards build but cannot be flashed #1657 remains excluded and open.
- All six fix PRs in the table are merged. Focused reproductions and exact validation evidence are retained in their PRs.
- The extra ClearCore Windows follow-up fix(toolchain): resolve ClearCore ARM GCC9 standard headers on Windows #1701 is closed by merged fix(sam): canonicalize ClearCore GCC9 C++ system headers #1702.
- Bosn is optional after merged fix(ci): stop optional Bosn proof from blocking hosted validation #1699; the maintainer’s instruction to skip it was honored. No fake attestations or additional fbuild copies/worktrees were used.
- Fixes are on main for the next release; no release was published as part of this task. Downstream users can verify the new version when released.
