Demo Math Journal

I'm a journal on mathematical methods and their applications.

An automatically generated index of every repository in the Demo-Math-Journal organization. Rebuilt nightly by GitHub Actions. See SETUP.md for how it works, and Organizing issues and sections to place an article in an issue.

Last built: 2026-11-03T15:06:02.248Z

Error-controlled numerical integration: adaptive Simpson's rule versus a fixed-grid Simpson's rule, compared at matched function-evaluation budgets.

Stochastic estimation of definite integrals and of pi, with an experiment tracking how the error actually shrinks as the sample count grows. $$\left( \sum{k=1}^n ak bk \right)^2 \leq \left( \sum{k=1}^n ak^2 \right) \left( \sum{k=1}^n b_k^2 \right)$$

Root-finding methods and their convergence behavior, compared side by side: Newton-Raphson, secant, and bisection. And more !!!

Organizing issues and sections

The website groups articles into issues, and issues into sections. Two things control this: topics on each article repository decide where it goes, and data/issues.json in this repository holds the settings for each issue and section.

Topics: placing an article

To add topics to an article repository:

  1. Open the repository on GitHub.
  2. Select the gear icon next to About on the right side of the page.
  3. Type each topic into the Topics field, pressing Enter after each one.
  4. Select Save changes.

Use these topics:

Topic Example Shown as
issue-<name> issue-2026 Issue 2026
section-<name> section-managing-energy Managing Energy
  • Issues are listed newest first. Numbers are compared as numbers, so issue-10 comes before issue-9.
  • Sections are listed alphabetically within their issue.
  • A repository with no issue- topic is listed under Other repositories at the bottom of the page.
  • A repository with an issue but no section- topic is listed under Other within that issue. If no repository in an issue has a section, the issue shows its articles without section headings.
  • Give each repository only one issue- topic and one section- topic. If it has more, only the first in alphabetical order is used.
  • Topic changes appear after the next build. The build runs nightly, or you can run it now: open the Actions tab, select Build organization repository index, and select Run workflow.

data/issues.json: issue and section settings

This file is edited by hand. The nightly build never overwrites it. The page reads it directly, so changes appear as soon as GitHub Pages redeploys, with no build needed.

{
  "issues": {
    "2026": {
      "image": "assets/images/sci.jpeg",
      "description": "A short paragraph about the theme of this issue."
    }
  },
  "sections": {
    "managing-energy": {
      "color": "#2E7D32"
    }
  }
}

Issues. Each key under "issues" is the part of the topic after issue-. The topic issue-2026 uses the key "2026". Each issue can set:

  • image: a picture shown beside the issue. Add the image file to assets/images/ and use its path, such as "assets/images/cover.jpg". A full https:// URL also works.
  • description: plain text shown under the issue title.

Sections. Each key under "sections" is the part of the topic after section-. The topic section-managing-energy uses the key "managing-energy". Each section can set:

  • color: a color swatch shown beside the section heading. Any CSS color works, such as "#2E7D32" or "teal".

Every setting is optional. An issue or section with no entry is shown without an image, description, or color. Keep these rules in mind when you edit the file:

  • Write keys in lowercase, because GitHub stores topics in lowercase.
  • A section color applies to that section name in every issue.
  • The file must be valid JSON: wrap keys and values in double quotes, and do not leave a comma after the last item in a list. If the file is invalid, the page still loads but without any images, descriptions, or colors. The browser console shows the error.
