xreader cannot be launched

When I open it from the command line, whether with a pdf as argument or just plain xreader, I get

$ xreader
Could not create GBM EGL display: EGL_NOT_INITIALIZED. Aborting...
[1]    146555 IOT instruction (core dumped)  xreader

I just updated xreader to the latest version

I have a GTX 1660Ti graphics card, and I just upgraded my proprietary nvidia drivers 580 at the same time as xreader

it seems to be working now after a reboot
