Imaging:
Abdominal CT Scan (11/18/2024): Evidence of acute pancreatitis without complications such as necrosis or pseudocyst formation.
Brief Hospital Course:
The patient was admitted for acute pancreatitis, likely secondary to alcohol use. He was managed with intravenous fluids, pain control using acetaminophen and low-dose morphine, and antiemetics. A low-fat, clear liquid diet was initiated on hospital day 3 and gradually advanced as tolerated. Laboratory abnormalities, including elevated liver enzymes and lipase, improved over the hospital stay. He was closely monitored for complications, none of which developed.

Patient education included strict abstinence from alcohol, a low-fat diet, and follow-up with primary care and gastroenterology. A prescription for pantoprazole 40 mg daily was provided for GERD management.

Discharge Diagnoses:
Acute pancreatitis, likely secondary to alcohol use.
Hypertension.
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
Discharge Instructions:
Primary Care Visit: Schedule within 1 week of discharge.
Gastroenterology: Follow-up in 2 weeks to reassess liver enzymes and discuss long-term management.
Diet: Low-fat diet; avoid alcohol completely.
Medications:
Pantoprazole 40 mg daily
Acetaminophen as needed for mild pain
Continue antihypertensive regimen as prescribed."
synthetic-2,"Chief Complaint:

Symptoms began after recent exposure to a family member with an upper respiratory infection. She denied chest pain, hemoptysis, or recent travel.

Physical Examination:
General: Mild respiratory distress, fatigued appearance.
